Farley was a comedic genius. He will be remembered as one of the great comedians of all time regardless of what some think of his style or act. More than a comedian Farley was a great and geniune person, he is sorely missed.
Had he been 170 pounds, I guarantee you half his appeal would have been stripped.
It was just funny to watch someone that size put himself in some of those situations (the Chippendale's audition sketch with Patrick Swayze, Matt Foley's motivational "techniques", etc.).
Does that make sense? Anyone else (Rob Schneider, Spade or whoever) would've been simply "ho hum...".
He was probably drunk on half those SNL shows and it shows sometimes. Just totally going for it and not caring what you come across like.
I can respect that, but I don't think it makes anyone a genius.

Farley was a genius because he was able to pul off stunts and laughs that nobody else would dare do. His physique made him laughable but it was how he used it.
I think Tommy Boy was his greatest achievment. He had such depth to his character in tha flick, made you laugh at him, but at the same time he was very human and you could identify with him. Very sad that he's no longer with us.
In your "tribute" to Jobs, why does BillyG have so much screen time? I like montages and all, but couldn't you find 2:30 of Jobs images?

Gates gets screen time because the beginning is recaping the industry leaders and what Jobs and Apple went through. Gates also says something pretty nice about the mac.
But then, that's what drug abuse will do for ya.
But to say that he was a comedic genius? Sounds like a stretch to me. He was loud, fat, and didn't give a shit about what he looked like. He's run around in his underwear sweating like a pig, and it was funny, because it's something you don't see to often. I just fail to see the "genius" in this.

Farley was aware of his physique and knew that he had a problem and comedy was his outlet. Farley had incredibly low self esteem which led him to drugs and depression. There will never be anybody like him again. I miss him when I see a movie or sketch with him.

And he wasn't just funny falling down, one of my favorite SNL sketches of his is him, Alec Baldwin & Janeanne Garafalo on some Japanese gameshow...

I really liked Chris Farley. He was extremely funny at times and extremely dumb at others. It's a shame he died. He seemed like a pretty cool guy.
Favorite movie of his: Almost Heroes. Funny movie. lol.
Best scene is him climbing up the trees to get the eagle eggs and the eagle attacking him and then him frying the eggs, doing it again, then eating scrambled eggs, and then doing it again to finally bring home the eggs. his facial expressions when the eagle is coming is hsyterical
But I don't think he was anything special or above and beyond.
Just a funny guy who went for it.
I, too, think the word "genius" is flung around a bit too freely these days.
Most comic characters are one dimensional. I though Farley added more to his characters. Yeah, I'd call it character depth, if you consider that it's a comedy.
But yeah you're right, I'm probably being a bit casual with calling him a genius. But he was damn gifted, that is for sure. There are lots of fat, sweaty, guys running around hopped up on cocaine, but none of them make me laugh like Farley could.
I would have liked to give him a great big hug when he was really low...maybe he'd still be here today if I had!
