I'm sorry he died and all, and he had his funny moments on SNL, but the guy just wasn't a comedic genius like John Belushi, or Phil Hartman. Sorry.

Farley was a comedic genius. He will be remembered as one of the great comedians of all time regardless of what some think of his style or act. More than a comedian Farley was a great and geniune person, he is sorely missed.

He was a big guy with no shame. I don't mean that in a bad way, necessarily, but there was nothing special or "genius" about him.

Had he been 170 pounds, I guarantee you half his appeal would have been stripped.

It was just funny to watch someone that size put himself in some of those situations (the Chippendale's audition sketch with Patrick Swayze, Matt Foley's motivational "techniques", etc.).

Does that make sense? Anyone else (Rob Schneider, Spade or whoever) would've been simply "ho hum...".

He was probably drunk on half those SNL shows and it shows sometimes. Just totally going for it and not caring what you come across like.

I can respect that, but I don't think it makes anyone a genius.

    Just drunk, over-the-top and attention-starved?

He was not attention starved. His idol was John Belushi, he followed him straight to his grave.

Farley was a genius because he was able to pul off stunts and laughs that nobody else would dare do. His physique made him laughable but it was how he used it.

Chris Farley was awesome! Certainly a comedic genius, although he fought depression and didn't realize the gifts he had.

I think Tommy Boy was his greatest achievment. He had such depth to his character in tha flick, made you laugh at him, but at the same time he was very human and you could identify with him. Very sad that he's no longer with us.

    One question:

In your "tribute" to Jobs, why does BillyG have so much screen time? I like montages and all, but couldn't you find 2:30 of Jobs images?

Why would Belushi be a genius and not Farley?

Gates gets screen time because the beginning is recaping the industry leaders and what Jobs and Apple went through. Gates also says something pretty nice about the mac.

Here's the most complete account of <a href="http://www.findadeath.com/Decesed/F/Chris Farley/chris_farley.htm&quot; target="_blank">Farley's death</a> on the web that I know of, including the autopsy photos. They're gross, you've been warned.

But then, that's what drug abuse will do for ya.

What is it with people throwing the "genius" label around so freely these days? Don't get me wrong, I laughed my ass off when I saw Mad Foley wrestling David Spade to the ground on SNL and yelling "Homework?! The only papers you've been using have been for rolling doooooooobbeeeeeeeess!!!"

But to say that he was a comedic genius? Sounds like a stretch to me. He was loud, fat, and didn't give a shit about what he looked like. He's run around in his underwear sweating like a pig, and it was funny, because it's something you don't see to often. I just fail to see the "genius" in this.

Funny guy? Yeah. Genius? I don't see it.

Sorry JYD, but this is the funniest damn post I've read in a while. I hope you are being sarcastic... character depth? Oh my god...

Farley was a genius in every sense of the word.

    gen·ius (jnys)

    n. pl. gen·ius·es

    1.\t

    a.\tExtraordinary intellectual and creative power.

b.\tA person of extraordinary intellect and talent: ?One is not born a genius, one becomes a genius? (Simone de Beauvoir).

Farley was aware of his physique and knew that he had a problem and comedy was his outlet. Farley had incredibly low self esteem which led him to drugs and depression. There will never be anybody like him again. I miss him when I see a movie or sketch with him.

Farley had some pretty good scenes in Tommy Boy.

And he wasn't just funny falling down, one of my favorite SNL sketches of his is him, Alec Baldwin & Janeanne Garafalo on some Japanese gameshow...

It's not as simple as "He was fat, he fell down."

There are millions of fat-asses out there...

    genuisly? hardly

I really liked Chris Farley. He was extremely funny at times and extremely dumb at others. It's a shame he died. He seemed like a pretty cool guy.

Favorite movie of his: Almost Heroes. Funny movie. lol.

Best scene is him climbing up the trees to get the eagle eggs and the eagle attacking him and then him frying the eggs, doing it again, then eating scrambled eggs, and then doing it again to finally bring home the eggs. his facial expressions when the eagle is coming is hsyterical

Don't get me wrong. There are scenes in "Tommy Boy" and various SNL sketches that cause me to laugh out loud, no matter how many times I've seen them.

But I don't think he was anything special or above and beyond.

Just a funny guy who went for it.

I, too, think the word "genius" is flung around a bit too freely these days.

Most comic characters are one dimensional. I though Farley added more to his characters. Yeah, I'd call it character depth, if you consider that it's a comedy.

But yeah you're right, I'm probably being a bit casual with calling him a genius. But he was damn gifted, that is for sure. There are lots of fat, sweaty, guys running around hopped up on cocaine, but none of them make me laugh like Farley could.

I would have liked to give him a great big hug when he was really low...maybe he'd still be here today if I had!
