They should just call it Windows X.

I'll bet there were serious discussions at Microsoft of precisely that.

How many years did it take to get Mac users to stop saying "Oh-Ess-Eks"? Windows users would never figure it out.

Is it a complete rewrite from the ground up, as has been needed for the past 14 years?
I'm guessing not. Because that would break backward compatability with a heap of stuff, probably including MS Office. And we all know where the true power is in Microsoft...
I find it funny that microsofts marketing is working so well they even have apple sites talking about the new version of windows.   If you guys really hated Microsoft you wouldn't be talking about them at all.
Yeah, you're right. No-one ever talks about things they don't like. Even when talking about how awful Windows is, or making fun of Monkey Boy dancing, it must mean we actually like them.

Like how every true conservative knows that Stephen Colbert is really one of theirs, he just pretends to be sending them up to fool the liberals...
I have to admit microsofts marketing team knows what they are doing. Keep in mind even bashing gets the new windows out there.
Yeah, even when how bad Windows 8 is gets on to national television with everyone complaining about it, Microsoft were probably just thinking about how much money they were going to make.
I'm gonna' wait for WindowsXXX ...
I think that's already out there on one of them Adult Parody sites...

I'll reserve judgment on Windows 10 until I get a chance to look at it. Also the equivalent server version. I don't hold much hope, though. Windows 8 and Server 2012 were both unusable in initial release. Server 2012 more so. Who came up with the idea of a hybrid desktop/tablet OS for a server?

    Interesting.

    Tech companies are reinventing numbers.

Microsoft went from 8 to 10.

Apple went from 10.9 to 10.1.

I think that Microsoft should carefully consider the name of their new OS and the implication it has on all of the descendants to follow ...

With that in mind, I suggest:

    Windows Quaker

What makes you so sure that OS XI will be out in four years, if at all?

Seriously though, if Windows have reached OS 10, it puts them where Apple was in 2000 with OS X 10.0.

They should have done that this year, really, as last year was 10.9.

If 10.10 were a number being used in a mathematical operation, you would be correct. Unfortunately, for you, that isn't the case.

Why? Apple has nothing to worry about. OS X is superior and people know it.

Are there still idiots who are on this? Cripes! They don't remember OS X 10.4.11? The fact that you can have two periods in a row is all the proof you need that they're not decimal points!

Windows 9 was tested to suck so windows 8 hey?
  • Reply 72 of 214

You people are ridiculous. Eventually, Windows was going to hit a 10th version (within the next few years). Are you telling me their evil plan all along for the past 10 years has to eventually get to the same number as Apple? Grow up.

Where is the proof that 10.10 contains a full stop and not a decimal point? There are no two periods in a row there.

    I rest my case.

The funny thing is, MS had the opportunity to start from scratch with Windows RT. No baggage of legacy code there, but instead they tried to mimic the desktop. Trying to design an interface that will look like it will do something when it really won't (fake desktop that will not run x86 apps) is just plain idiotic IMHO. All I can do is shake my head and smile by all this backpedaling.

OS XI will never happen as Apple seem to like their decimal points so much. Or should that be periods?

No, what I was meaning was although they may look like ads, those tiles in the start menu are apps. One is the Mint.com app, and the other is the TripAdvisor app.

I think that's what you meant.

As I remember, Apple also was supposed to jump from Mac OS 8 to OS X, but delays meant they had to release an interim OS 9.
