iBook External Keyboard.

Has anybody tried plugging an USB keyboard into an iBook? I found it strange that the Apple Store offers an external mouse but no keyboard for the iBook. <img src="graemlins/bugeye.gif" border="0" alt="[Skeptical]" />

Uh, how about the Apple Pro Keyboard?

    Works like a charm.

I always use my Pro Keyboard with my iBook. Haven't used the iBook's keyboard since the last time I brought it with me somewhere (in October).

I'm confused.. why have a portable computer if you do this? I have an iBook. It goes from home to work to home everyday. If I was in college still it would be doing the same. If you leave it at home all the time and plug in a keyboard or monitor even, it seems to make much more sense to just have a desktop Mac.

Because the Pro Keyboard is much better to use if you're typing all day (like EmAn is here... ).

Besides, it saves wear and tear on the iBook's keyboard, which then only gets used when you're away from home (or the office).

I used one with my iBook too - I preferred to use a 'real' keyboard when at home (external mouse too).

    I guess it's a personal preference.

I don't need a portable. I thought I'd bring it more places and stuff but the truth is I don't. If I could sell it now and get an iMac or G4 tower I would.

The only thing stopping me from buying a used Mac is that I'd like to make sure everything worked before I shelled out the cash. You live near me....hmmm

If you ARE interested in selling...let me know

Funny you should mention this. I just picked up a Pro Keyboard this morning to use at home with my 600 Mhz iBook. I also have an 1 1/2 year old Logitech scroll mouse. I find them easier to use when working at home. The keys are much father apart and more comfortable for continued use. I plugged the keyboard and mouse in and they both worked immediately. Thats what is so great about USB. Didn't have to use the Driver CD that came with the mouse either. When on the road, the iBooks keyboard and trackpad will do.

I'd love to sell, the problem is my dad. He doesn't want me to. Are you still thinking of getting a new iMac? Because I'd take your old Power Mac if you didn't want it and then since we live near close there shouldn't be a problem.

EmAn, my old iMac (400MHz Indigo) for your iBook plus lets say $300 or so (negotiable), what are your specs?

I got 10GB 512 ram and I'll throw in all my software and MP3s if you want ( I doubt you would like my music...) I'm really serious... or do you want a PM?...I would too

So you want to buy my Power Mac? I think we can work something out. Do you want the 17 inch CRT monitor too?

I'd like to work something out... but I don't know, like always it's up to my parents. I don't need the CRT because I've got the 15" LCD I got a few weeks ago.

I would think about that, but I really want something with a G4.

I'll talk to them over the weekend. Right now they're at school at parent teacher conferences so I'll probably be getting yelled at later.

Sorry to here about the yelling thing EmAn, I use the keyboard that came with my iMac, a 17 inch monitor and an intellimouse when my iBook is home. At work I use a mini mouse that fits in my backpack real nice and doesn't squash my lunch.
