Well, as far as the last one is concerned, let's not forget that Apple combines an insane level of detail in some areas with even insane levels of neglect in other areas. Have a look at how broken Mobile Accounts are in OS X Server and for how long this has been the case. Complete neglect. Makes me swear at a regular basis, e.g. when loggin in or out takes hours because suddenly home sync has decided that everything in an iPhoto Library has to be synced, or when syncing fails, lock screen startes and suddenly the focus of the lock screen is somewhere behind that lock screen in a warning panel you can't reach (solution: hard reset).

Better than Windows, yes, a lot even, perfect no.

I agree. They often get things wrong. Sometimes they fix it, or improve it, sometimes not. Just like iTunes12:

I just got finished installing and playing around with Windows Technical 10 review. It's fast, extremely so on my Surface Pro. It's not bad, I like the new menu system, they really tightened up the visual aspect, there were a few programs that had a problem with the Surface high resolution but now everything looks good. The pen seems to be a lot more accurate with Photoshop, though it was pretty good before, big improvement with the sound, I've noticed a lot more bass when using Spotify. I really like how the tablet apps now open up like desktop apps. The touch points when using the screen have also been greatly improved, it has registered every single touch I've done on the desktop without fail. Virtual keyboard is also 10x faster, a real big complaint I had with 8, I can now type 40 Plus words a minute with ease, I'm actually faster with the Surface 3 now than I am with my iPad. So, so far so good, though I already really liked the Surface 3 when it ran Windows 8, it's probably one of the best tablets I've ever owned, the build quality, display, speed, weight, almost everything about was done extremely well. I have no idea why some of you feel the way you do about it, it's almost the perfect machine, especially when used with a MS Wedge keyboard and mouse.

Before I installed W10 I created another partition for OSX, going to make a Hackintosh out of it, there are some issues but it looks like most of them have been worked out, if this works the Surface would be the perfect platform for a OSX tablet. Just goofing around here, I'm sure it will be a pain to get everything working perfectly but it gives me something to do and it's super fun, yaaayyy.

Thanks for that info. I have downloaded it but won't have time to take a proper look until Tuesday. I was one of the suckers who paid full price for Windows 8, so hopefully their will be an upgrade discount for me.

I don't think I have ever paid for a boxed version of Windows, it always came with the computer that I bought, though I've honestly haven't used Windows for almost 15 before version 8 was released. I was always a Unix girl, like Sun and SGI Unix, none of that cheap Linux knockoff crap. With Windows 8, I first started with a Lenovo ThinkPad Tablet 2 then a ThinkPad Tablet 8, now a Surface 3 and Nokia 2520. The Nokia came with my sons phone in a bundled deal, great machine to surf and type on. Though Windows 8 wasn't perfect, I always wanted a desktop OS that was friendly with touch and for that MS pulled it off, not perfectly but enough to get my attention. Now with the Surface 3 and Windows 10, it's really come together as something that even a person from around these parts would find intriguing. Don't listen to what has been written about the Surface 3 around here, it's a fantastic machine and that is a no BS comment. The only thing that I would like to see added to the Surface is a keyboard dock that is more traditional to what we've seen in other hybrids, hard shell, built in battery, you know, like what Asus, Dell and Nokia do with their keyboards, but this in no way means that the current keyboard isn't adequate. I just specifically liked what Nokia did with the 2520's keyboard dock, I have a red one to add a little color to the setup, very nice looking.

I still have my MacBook Air and like it very much but I find myself impatiently waiting for Apple to do the same thing with OSX. I would like nothing more than to have a hybrid MacBook where I can use OSX and iOS together either merged into one or be able to switch between the two OS's seamlessly. Since both OS's could share the same kernel, this instant transition wouldn't be to hard to do, heck I could probably do it if I had access to both the OS's source code, it would take me a while. Though if I can get OSX running on the Surface 3 and it runs like it's supposed too, hopefully, well the MacBook Air just might become obsolete or at the least become a backup machine.

I just recently pre-ordered a Lenovo ThinkVision 28, 4K touch monitor, my first one, yaaay, 4K. It will hopefully be sitting at home waiting for me to play with when I get home, what's unique about this model is that it has built in Miracast so I won't need to plug in any cables into my Surface 3 or Nvidia Shield, it's has a 4K resolution, a first for me and the best part it has a built in Nvidia K1 CPU with Android. Cool huh, now I'm not interest in the Android part but I do like me some Nvidia CUDA cores, the more encoding power the merrier.

Well, in addition to being more horrible than I could have ever imagined, Windows 10 also won’t display its renamed hard drive correctly in OS X. I called it “The Inverse” in Windows and this is what I see.

I wonder… Maybe I could just figure out which random Unicode characters to name it in Windows, and then it would show up correctly in OS X. <img class=" src="http://forums-files.appleinsider.com/images/smilies//lol.gif" />

How do I recreate that, that is a really bad bug. I normaly mount my drives via the terminal and assign a custom name to the drive using a SMB parameter . Though I also just tried using the finder this time and the name appeared just fine. Was this a Chinese Windows 10 install?

    t. Skil; is that my rapper name? Or an e. e. cummings style tip of the hat? I’ll do more poetry in the future, then.

Standard English Windows 10; I simply renamed the C drive from “UNTITLED” to “The Inverse” while I was in Windows and this happened.

Note that the partition that Boot Camp sets up cannot currently be used with Windows 10. You have to delete it and manually remake it, which may be the source of the problem. Consequently, you cannot delete it using Boot Camp, but it can be removed with complete ease using Disk Utility directly.

I think I’m using UEFI with it, but who knows with Windows. I don’t know–nor care enough to know–about the OS to check other than wanting to be using it for any future GPUs I get.

Any other comments about Windows 10, dislikes and likes, which menu system are you using, tablet mode or desktop? I haven't installed it yet on my MacBook Air, should I bother?

I wanted to use the new-old-new Start menu, but OblyTile hasn’t been updated for it yet and I really like having my programs as custom tile images, so I went back to the fullscreen Start window.

Thing is (and this is just because it’s software barely out of the gate), they’ve just slapped the new UI over the old one, so the Taskbar overlaps buttons (Steve would’ve had a heart attack if anything shown to users did that). I’ll get a screenshot the next time I boot to it.

What do I like... Oh! I was very surprised that, upon install, Windows looked up my hardware, found drivers for it, and installed those drivers in the background. That’s very Apple of them, and only 14 years after Apple did it. They seem to be improving.

Imagine my surprise, when digging for a working driver for the Radeon 4870 in Windows 8.1 (and praying that it would still work in 10), my screen blinked from 640x480 up to 2560x1440 on its own. I still have to put it to sleep and wake it up every single time I boot to force the resolution to work, but at least it works.

Other than the frequent, unexplainable crashes that require hard restarts of my computer, my only major complaint is that the Boot Camp driver for the Apple Keyboard didn’t work. Guess I’ll try with Boot Camp 6.

That's clearly where they're getting their approach. That said, you can always go further back in history and see where different organizations were involved in our current systems. Multi-touch gesturing has been around a while, and Apple bought (pioneers) Fingerworks in 2005. Xerox Park is back in the history of this tech too...

At least Apple paid Xerox. I can't find any info on MS paying any company for their implementation of multi gesture on a large touchpad, a pad they certainly did not invent / design themselves...

Luckily, that idea is free for anyone who wants it.
