I don't think the "it has been way too long" would relate to waiting. That goes against their philosophy of not releasing any product until it is ready no matter how long that takes. It has to be that Apple is introducing something that solves a long standing issue for the world like the new ? Pay. Otherwise 'way too long' would be a negative mark against Apple if it referred to a simple product release taking a longer than expected time like an upgrade to something.
It's related to the stock, it's been way too long hanging at 100, we need a big jump so we listened to our customers, here what's coming for the holiday season:
the Mac Pro Mini (with a Mac Mini price) the new iPhone 6 with a 4" screen the new Retina MacBook Air with matte screen and discrete GPU the new Apple TV with apps and a ps4 style controller the new Airport extreme with usb3 and tb ports the new iOS 9 which is just like iOS 6 the new OS X 10.11 which is like Snow Leopard the new iWork suite which is like the old one
Ala Carte Television. Pay for only what you want. That has been a problem since....FOREVER!
I don't think people understand how expensive that would become for the consumer. By the time you order 10 TV shows you will be pay the same or more than your current cable bill. In the current business model you don't really pay for the extra channels. If it was a la carte you would just be paying more for the top rated shows to subsidize the producers of the lower rated shows.

Nope.
Nope.
Eventually, nope, and nope.
Got it, but they call them channels, and nope.
I'd like that, and, not unless it contains certain Intel processors, so nope.
Ridiculous to want to iOS 6 to replace iOS 9 and stupid to even suggest a new iOS for next week.
Again, ridiculous to want iOS 10.11 to replace next week and for it to be 10.6.
I'd like some of the features to return as well as a lot more features it's never had, but I don't want the old iWork suite apps to return.

Return of the classic w Bluetooth?
Guys, it’s obvious. They’re releasing the new Flex Macs.
I'm bending my iPhone 6 in anticipation!

I think a Thursday event makes sense if they want whatever it is to go on sale Friday and get a full weekend sales like that. BOOM!
Way too long...
that the world has been suffering with insecure credit card payment systems…
Announcing the NEW ? Pay starting today!
With the imminent release of Yosemite, this has to be a Mac-centric event.
(Apple doesn't want to have to support new hardware under Mavericks, too.)
Waiting too long....... For iTV.......

The STAND-ALONE Apple HomeCenter is finally here.........
What is Apple HomeCenter?
Its the center of your home.
Its a TV
Its a media center.
its the control center for your AC, doors, lights (home kit)
It will hold all your music, movies, home apps.
Use it to pay bills.
Setup family calanders, reminders.
Ability to set up an easy Home Cloud
This will take place of your home PC (except for people who do a lot of specialized work on their computers)
Its been way too long
I think the home center will be more closely aligned with Airport Extreme than the AppleTV(TV and Media Center in your list above)
Siri: I'm sorry Dave, I can't do that. Insufficient funds.

I don't have a mobile phone so it's not the past to me and I care about it.
Apple of course may not. I'm prepared for the news ...

iPods? Mac Mini? AppleTV?
Gosh would that be the most disapointing announcement in Apple history.
Tim Cook: "There's one more thing..."
*crowd is quiet and fixated on Cook and the giant screen behind him*
"introducing something completely new, something no one expected, the main event...
introducing the all new... ?Pay!"
*half the crowd cheers and claps confusingly*
*awkward moment*
Media and message boards immediately begin to rant how Apple is Doomed and can't innovate anymore.
