Way too long since they updated the iPod touch. Hoping there's a 5.5" iPod touch Plus in store.

Why “Plus” when there wouldn’t be a small one?

Guys, it’s obvious. They’re releasing the new Flex Macs.

Ha! Yes, they have a reputation to live up to now.

If no one wants particular channels the cable company won't need to support those channels any more.

There are so many total crap channels on cable now that no one wants but is wasting tons of network space

If there was such thing as ala carte TV i bet 90% of the people who cut cable will be back

Not the cable companies. It's the channel owners. They hold the providers and the viewer hostage.

"Oh, you want our popular channels with the hit shows on them?"

"Well, you have to take our crap channels too or no deal."

So we are stuck with channels that are mostly infomercials or shopping, etc.

Same reason you get all those Spanish channels you can't understand.

If they had to survive on actual viewers the channel owners would find them unprofitable.

They would either have to charge an arm and a leg for them or drop them.

But if they did that idiots that don't understand economics would scream racist!

How about learning English? If my ancestors who spoke German and Czech could learn English so can you.

My ancestors weren't any better or any smarter than yours.

    2) With iOS 8 you get audio message option in iMessage. If you were a heavy dictation user because you were on the go and are now moving to the audio message option because it's faster because you don't have to verify in writing what you said, you will probably experience saying things like comma, period, exclamation point, question mark, and other punctuation in your dictated audio messages because it's nearly identical to the routine you did with voice-to-text dictation.
Yep I have found myself doing exactly that. I'm sure it freaks out the recepients at the other end...
As for the event, no idea what they will surprise us with (besides new iPads), however I would like to see new AppleTVs..

If it's in Town Hall it's not a big event.

There will a PPC related mac update ????

Lol, almost. It's a retina lc475! Go Team!

Too long? Gotta be retina iMacs. Can't see it being AppleTV given recent sw updates for current one.

Then again... A Siri controlled AppleTV? That would tie-in with last month's "wish we could say more"...

I actually caught myself saying "period" while I was talking to a client on the phone.  Real professional!

    Its a TV

    Its a media center.

its the control center for your AC, doors, lights (home kit)

It will hold all your music, movies, home apps.

    Use it to pay bills.

    Setup family calanders, reminders.

Ability to set up an easy Home Cloud

This will take place of your home PC (except for people who do a lot of specialized work on their computers)

    Its been way too long

If so, I truly hope it relies on some other software than iTunes for music and apps.

I said I would never own a Samsung product, but when it was time to replace my old flatscreen, all the research I did online and in the stores showed that Samsung had the best screen in the 60" class.  I am very happy with the screen.  The Smart part is not so smart, and haven't used it since the initial setup. Screen great, rest bad.

Clearly this is a hint at the release of the iTV.  Biggest Apple event ever.  Finally!

**** iPads, iTV, iWhatever - if this event is NOT about Macs I will finally lose faith in Mr Cook, the world's best COO and nothing else, for good.

Bring the Retina iMacs, please! And why not the fabled xMac as well as the good ol' colorful Apple logo again???

I shoot 4K with my Olympus OM-D EM-1, or more accurately, with the coming firmware update from Olympus, I will be shooting 4K. I have already purchased a 3D 4K Curved Screen 55" Samsung for my studio, to display my clients work in the most dramatic and exciting way possible. And though, I thought I'd never own a Samsung product, particularly since their screens are too contrasty, eliminating shadow and highlight detail that is so crucial to my work as a pro photographer and commercial artist, there is nothing on the market at this point to compare. Given the years of of speculation that 4K screens are "just around the corner" from Apple, I have given up on this rumor — at least for now.

Same here - I don't care if it costs USD 10,000; as long as it has a strong enough GPU, I will buy a new Retina iMac.

I agree on the capabilities of HomeKit and that its a big deal, but it doesn't fit as the tagline reference any better than Apple Pay does.  Yes, its been a long time coming in our technological age to have these things automated and managed through the application of technology, but nether has been front of mind until recently.  If the tagline said, "it's been a long time coming," then I could see it referring to either HomeKit or ApplePay or any futuristic technology that had been imagined long ago but not brought to fruition until now.

The tagline as expressed could be about the AppleTV update (which, yes, would include HomeKit) since it hasn't been updated in a while.  But I don't think Apple bases an entire event on what has been self-professed to be a hobby, unless there's something for the masses in the update, like a gaming interface or unless they are opening up the App store to it.  HomeKit needs time to roll out to the masses; it will be a hobby adopted by those constructing new homes and those relatively few early adopters as HomeKit controlled products roll out from various vendors.  HomeKit is not sufficiently horizontal at this point to warrant the event being focused on it.

The tagline could be about the Mac Mini, but, as I state in my previous comment, that product is not sufficiently significant to warrant the focus of the event tagline.

A new product, or what Apple could term a new product, especially one that used to exist and went away, would be sufficiently newsworthy and would warrant a reference such as "it's been way too long."  That's the reason I'm thinking of the 12" Retina MacBook; I've been suggesting it will be a MacBook (neither Air nor Pro) for about six months.  If I'm correct, it exactly fits the tagline.

But what if it wasnt a apple TV box but a literal tv. They said it would be the best year in terms of the product pipeline earlier this year, and it has been while since Apple tv has been updated. So far, in terms of products, he Apple watch aside it hasn't been amazing. And it's been even longer that we've speculated the possibility of an Apple TV sometime coming. The different colours could suggest some kind of 5k TV further.

Mac Mini? If you think Mac Mini refresh will play the main role in the event, Apple must be nut. Mac Mini may be included as a part of this event but the invitation means something more special like big iPad, redesigned MacBook Air or maybe TV set. Apple TV cannot play major role in this event even it now has Siri and runs full iOS since it's only a hobby device per Apple.

My prediction: larger iPad and TV set.

    Mac Pro Mini

    There you go...

Or Mac Air Mini with TouchID in front instead of power button in the back and the size is the same as the Super Drive; all come with SSD standard.

    well before you do...

I confess to owning samsung 60 inch, which is in a less used room, and sharp 55 inch in my main viewing room. The sharp displays reflect a lot less from windows etc.. than the very glossy samsung. If you have windows opposite your screen - check out the sharp series before spending.

So, you mean the TV set? What about Apple TV now? Discontinued or the TV set will have a thunderbolt slot to pop new AppleTV in and there we have Apple HomeCenter.

BTW, welcome back after being banned...:)

I hate to burst your bubble here, but I doubt that Apple will ever do an actual TV.  The tech for the panels changes too quickly and even Samsung is having problems making money on TV's.  The margins are jus too thin now on them.  Heck even 4K TV's are under $3.000, and that is a new technology here in the USA.  No, I think Apple, if they do anything with the TV, will make a device that is about the size of an XBOX or a PS4 that can be everything in the living room, displacing the "SMART" TV initiatives of Samsung and LG in the process.  Something that could literally turn any HDTV into a dumb display for the Apple TV Box.  And of course the design of it will be to die for once Sir Johnny Ive is done with it.

What do I actually expect from the event next week?  It's obvious, this will be the time they update the iPads with the TouchID that they should have had last year.  Other then that, I don't expect anything Earth shaking.
