Observations at an Apple Store today

* They had two ladders out and they were mucking around above the ceiling tiles next to one of the signs. I don't know what the were doing, it didn't seem like anything important.

* The new iMacs don't have any trouble with keyboard clearance when the CD tray comes out...unless you put the keyboard right up against the base. The tray is not the problem, the trap door is.

* The demos really slow the Macs down or something. I couldn't play a 480x360, 29.97 FPS VP3 encoded QuickTime without dropping frames on the 700 MHz iMac. I had trouble playing the movie at about 33% larger than normal resolution on an 867.

* I use a white point of 9300 on my CRT, but the iMacs seem to look best in the store with no correction...however, it really washes out the details. I couldn't see the pin-stripes well with no white point adjustment.

* There were a lot of non-Mac faithful in the store.

* They've started a book section in the software aisle, but it has displaced some of the software. There were stacks of software boxes on top of the shelves. I guess they were in the middle of rearranging things.

* Someone left <a href="http://retail.apple.com/"; target="_blank">http://retail.apple.com/</a>; as a bookmark on an iMac. That URL contains a link to <a href="http://sales.apple.com/"; target="_blank">http://sales.apple.com/</a>; as well.

Man, don't you know -- that's where they keep the quad-processor G5 Powermacs stashed!

I registered to that asw.apple.com just for kicks. I hope I don't get in trouble.
