still think 5k iMac is a bad idea.

Yeah WTF? Apple and their crazy ideas to make the best desktop in the world even better by sharpening the display so.

They need to just stop already.

Well....after I buy one, they can stop.

Sure, and no one needs more than a 9" compact Mac with no expansion either.

Apple is going to have to do something, the iPad as is it not quite there as a PC replacement. Close, but not quite there.

???

It's replacing tens of millions of PC purchases per year. And has for 4 years.

5k is not a standard that anyone is supporting. 2k, 4k, 6k and 8k are.

5k is not enough bigger than 4k to give you a workspace within which to do 4k editing.

All 5k does for an iMac is give them an empty boast "better than 4k".

More to the point, the long waited for TB2 monitor for the New Mac Pro would need 2 TB 2.0 connections to be able to push those kinds of pixels. With no real benefit. (and if there ever is a TB2 display from Mac it would kind of have to be based on whatever iMac is current)

Finally, can we say constrained supplies from vendors?

All this trouble for their mid level desktop.

The iMac is a consumer desktop which really isn't a desktop because it uses mobile chipsets. A standalone UHD display would make more sense for Mac Pro users.

no it doesn't become more complicated. Each profile is an account, each account has their own sandbox for each app. The sandbox and the app are not stored in the same location in iOS, it only acts like they are. If a parent can set an iMac in their kitchen for their kids to share, why shouldn't they also be able to give them an iPad to share.

Your supposed version issue is no different than two users of a shared mac.

The primary issues are
- low end models have limited storage (the same could be said about the previous 64 gig macbook air)
- touchid would need updated to be on a per account basis which may require a hardware change.

The only way I could see this work is if they stored "guest" accounts in the cloud. The way apps work right now it would take a lot of storage and Apple keeps selling storage options from 2005. Maybe with the new "extensions" idea they could actually do this. They may already be working towards this and we are seeing the small steps (some would say big with extensions) taken toward that goal.

I keep hearing the executives state that they have "Lazer like focus". To me that means they know where they want to be in ten years and they have meetings to discuss what they can do for next year and work on those items 50% of the time, two years 25% of the time, three 15.... Etc. so perhaps it's already in the works and we are seeing the beginnings of it like "extensions" and more will be made clear as they get closer to their goal.

They have been replacing the sales of netbooks for the past four years. Not desk top computers. So well in fact that netbooks have almost disappeared when it was originally a gigantic market. The chrome book is a struggling product at best.

Edit: AI did something odd and double posted the quote... Weird.

What possible justification could you have for that?

No, “empathy” has nothing whatsoever to do with this at all. Apple wants you to have your own device. How complicated is that to understand?

Maybe you could just hand them the phone on the lock screen. They can use Siri to dial the number but they can't see your content. I think that works.
.

Good idea! I did try it but it didn't work for me. I have the 5s so touch Id opened the phone. At this point I'll have to check it with someone other than my wife (her print is in there too). I'll hand it to a friend tomorrow and see if it works. Let me know if you tried it.

Oh please, Siri can be invoked from the lock screen to dial numbers with your knuckle or a pencil eraser, whatever. Touch ID has nothing to do with it.

Please just buy another iPad.

iPad/iPhone are personal devices.

What next? Profiles for phones also? Ridiculous. Stop thinking like a WindowsOffice

So that whole IBM alliance thing was just a publicity stunt and won't actually produce any business orientated apps. Multi profiles are also very useful to a household that can't afford an iPad for everyone in it. How about separating you work from your home life, your pervy porno life from your father of the year Christin life, there are lots of reasons why a system that can handle multiple profiles is useful and frankly it's ridiculous that Apple hasn't implemented this feature.

The ChromeBook is not struggling, it's actually one of the few products that is doing well in a market where most everything else is failing. Just because you might not like something doesn't mean you have to make up stories just to make a silly point.

iPhone 4 stolen right out from a bar! And then sold to bloggers! There must have been sex involved somewhere. Someone should make a movie out of this!
