What master plan do you guys think Steve has for Apple? This includes the next year, to as far as the next 15 years. I think his steveness will be targeting the high-end consumer market and start kicking it up in the workstation market.

My wishes for Jobs and Co. would be.

    1. Continue to "sweeten" OSX. Fix the issues that consumers are complaining about.

    2. Enhance the Digital Hub. Ensure that the products are foolproof when used together like a team.

    3. Continue to make inroads in Desktop Digital Video. DVD Recording is going to explode and now that video editing is getting easy...I expect that to do very well.

    4. Servers Servers Servers. Need 1U and 2U Servers.

    5. What happened to Webobjects...Promote Apple!

    6. Create an Internal Game company devoted to using Apple Tech as proof of concept.

    7. Adverstise the benefits of Quiet PC's. Some of us want enough power but would also like a little quiet. iMacs are almost there.

    That would please me.

iDevices. so far, we have an iPod. that can't possibly be the only hdwr dig hub thing they're gonna do. i think we'll get a few new ones (camera, dv-camera, other things, not a pda tho).

in fifteen yrs we'll (i know i will at least) have macs, but they won't be called PowerMacs, or iMacs of course. they'll have a new nomer. they'll probably by then b running some form of MacOS which is utterly incomparable to our "modern" Mac OS. and, despite the fact that for our present apps, they'll be so fast if they were released now we'd wet ourselves, we'll all be complaining that Apple should be releasing the g20ks at 2 billion GHz.

ms will finally be destroyed, b/c in fifteen yrs we're bound to have some kind of regulation on them. there'll be rainbows and birds chirping.

Of course, in fifteen yrs, we'll have an AUI (audio user interface), b/c speech recognitiion will be way better. movies have been telling us for decades that computers are going to understand our speech, and i think in fifteen yrs we'll have sufficient AI in them so they'll know to maintain themself (disk cleaning, fix software glitches) automatically and in background. miniaturization will also allow these computers to b reasonably carried around (like our current PDAs). imagine, 15yrs times a 1ghz g4, in your pocket. the future is gonna b kewl.

o wait, thats just the crack i'm smokin'.

Little pixies and B+W movies of 1984 run in slo mo in steve's head.

The future seems to be becoming clear:

Steve is determined to move away from the high end multimedia markets and focus apple solely as a consumer orientated computer maker. There will be lots of iapps and cut down low spec imacs for ordinary users to have fun with in the hope that despite no marketing whatsoever, millions of folks will buy imacs for the little johnny in their lives.

As designers and multimedia developers move to XP, apple will instead focus on traditional Unix markets like the scientific apps. The cr*ppy powermacs are testament to this. Plus the fact that OS X is still too Unix-ish whenever there's a problem points to the fact that we may see two variants of OS X in the future. One that has a very aquafied candy coated disney interface and one for the unix crowd that is CLI orientated.

In the meantime Powermacs will disappear from University and college art/design departments leading to new generations of designers being XP orientated.

Watch out for the next gen of cute imacs with limited specs that allow you to make your own home movies, log onto the disney channel, make DVDS, create your own photo albums all from a remote control or phone.

Over the past 3 years apple's focus has been entirely on the consumer end. If you are committed to the pro end then you cannot leave the pro machines for so long without losing ground you cannot hope to make up.

However, as apple will find out, the consumer market is not a loyal market and is fickle in its associations. hence apple will inevitably run out of cash from its low marging systems. Expect Michael Dell to be waiting in the wings to buy Apple within 10 years.

Nah, apple will not give up the bread & butter high-end market, the margins apple makes there are huge! I think that apple will focus on high-end consumer, and really push into the workstation market. It is not Apple's fault for the low-speed (But high performance) G4's, and Apple will probably be revising the bus architecture within the next 6-8 months.

Trying to guess what goes on in SJ's head is like trying to figure out how far "up" goes. It'll probably never happen.

Actualy up can only go so far until it "up" becomes "down".
