How in the world would we know when Apple will never disclose sales figures for each model. The only clue we might get is when they disclose ASPs on the next earnings call.

What did you expect from brlawyer?

I went from a 4S to a 6. I do miss the one handedness of the 4S but the 6 is a very nice upgrade for me. 6+ is way too big.

    1) If you mention footprint you then refer to all aspects that make up the footprint.

    2) This isn't Flatland so we need to consider how all points on 3-dimensional object interact with every other point on. 3-die tribal object.

For example, the iPhone 4 made an improvement in usability because of its thinness over the 3GS, but the flat sides, in and of themselves, moved backwards in ergonomics. If they had done that with the 3GS thickness the overall usability would have been reduced.

Did I mention footprint? Not AFAIK.

I don't think the 6 Plus would outsell the 6 if supply were better, just that the numbers would be different - not 3 to 1.

My 6 plus is scheduled for delivery today after six weeks of waiting, I as you feel that it is the phone I wanted and was willing to wait.

Alex Lindsay is on this list too. He is trading his iPhone 6 plus for the smaller one.

The long and convoluted way round.  Still, I can see how that might have worked   :)

The 6 Plus is very nice, but it's a bit unwieldy even in my fairly large hands

I have been using my iP6+ for over a month now and it is without a doubt the best phone I have ever owned. It took a bit  of getting used to esp. without a case because it is so slippery. Now I have the grippy case from Apple it doesn't slip out of my hand at all. I have very large hands and I'm able to use it easily with one hand. I love the size, the amazing battery life, the camera and the bigger accurate display. Each to his own I imagine people with smaller hands will not be able to use it one handed so they can buy the smaller one. At least now we all have the choice. Isn't that what its about? Everyone is happy except for solipsism who is NEVER a happy  about anything , but that's genetic. I can use the notability, equil and numbers apps on it which wasn't really possible on iP5.

Females have an advantage, because most of them usually carry around some sort of purse or handbag that is already filled with lots of junk and strange stuff inside.

Where is a male going to put a phablet?

I can also see an iPhone Mini as being something that certain females would like, since it would be small and cute.

It's not a part that gets used. In fact, the Home Button now slightly farther away from my thumb's pivot point adds to the overall usability. That elongated Home Button on the Galaxy series is actually a feature I like because it allows for a shorter bend in my thumb to tap.

A iPhone 6+ in the hand is worth two iPhone5's in the bush

Actually, I'd love a version of the iPhone 4/4s with the durable flat metal sides, but with the iPhone 6's curved glass front and back to provide the rounded edges.

It would be a lot more durable and scratch resistant than the aluminum back and sides on the 5 and 6.

Hard to say. I think it'd be really niche, and there's the problem of the price point.

    Or carpenter jeans. <img class=" src="http://forums-files.appleinsider.com/images/smilies//lol.gif" />

That, or companies can simply make bigger pockets.

I think there was pent-up demand for the 5.5" model at launch, but things have settled into the ratio that fits my idea as to how the US market would shake out, once non-line-waiting customers got around to making purchase decisions. The 5.5" is for phablet-crazy Asian markets.

Oh, okay, so all the products I mentioned have different target markets, but the iPhone 6 and 6+ have the same market. That makes so much sense.

I wouldn't want to put my phone in my back pocket. I saw this story on the Verge about how somebody who had their iPhone 6+ in their back pocket ended up getting it stolen, and they didn't even notice it. They ended up finding the thief using find my iPhone, but people who have huge phones sticking out of their back pockets shouldn't be surprised if it eventually gets stolen, without them even noticing.

I never put my wallet in my back pocket, and for the same reasons, I think that it's a pretty bad idea to put a $1000 phone in your back pocket, especially a phone that is sticking out of the pocket, and you're basically advertising to all thieves, hey, come and steal me! Free iPhone here!

You wrote, "both taller and wider" and then stated that it's only smaller in thickness and that total volume was bogus. How is that not a comment about the footprint?

I carry mine in my front left pants pocket every day, and it's in there most of the day.  Sometimes at work if I know I'm going to be at my desk for an extended period of time I will take it out and prop it up on my desk so I don't have to keep taking it in and out of my pocket to check email/texts (I did the same thing with my iPhone 5 before it), but if I get up to go anywhere it goes right back in my pocket.

Over 6 weeks of ownership now, and no bends with this kind of "abuse" either.

That's probably why a store in China started offering pocket enlargements:

    http://www.businessinsider.com/make-pants-bigger-for-the-iphone-6-2014-10

If you need new pockets, you're buying it wrong.

Joswiak said that the bigger screen is more popular in China, not so much in Europe and mixed in the US. The US will represent about 40% of sales so 3-1 means 10% overall. Europe will represent about 25% so say it's 5-1, that's 5%, Asia is 35% and that seems to be 5-2 so 14%. This is roughly the regional revenue breakdown in their earnings reports. Worldwide, this would come out 71% iPhone 6, 29% iPhone 6 Plus.

The following site suggests 4:1 at present:

    https://mixpanel.com/trends/#report/iphone_6/from_date:-29,report_unit:day,to_date:0

It's still a reasonable volume of sales. I don't think that it's a trend that will sustain over time in Western countries. There was a small group desperate for the larger one. Asian countries are clearly the biggest fans of the large displays.

If they hadn't bothered making the larger one, most of them would have bought the iPhone 6 but say that 4/5 of the 25-33% got the cheaper 6 and the remainder went elsewhere, Apple would make $100 less per model and lose a portion of sales so financially, it was better to have the 6 Plus option as others correctly pointed out before it launched.

If a trend happens where people go round wearing comedy clown shoes, people are going to say that it's not right but when a company is answerable to shareholders, they'd similarly be expected to monetize an opportunity to sell those shoes to a demanding public.

I put keys in my back pocket. But only when I'm standing, I don't sit on them (who wants to pay $60 a key?). Wallets and phones belong in front pockets. That's why there's two of them.

    1) I think that would look pretty slick, especially how it's so seamless now compared to the plastic(?) rimmed glass of the iPhone 4/4S.

    2) If you go into a carrier store and play with the other smartphones after using an iPhone 6 series you may notice how comparatively primitive they feel with that small metal or plastic lip where the top glass meets the case. I had never noticed it before. Note: This isn't a slam against non-iPhones as this is the same for all previous iPhone's too. Funny how your perception can change so quickly when it comes to the state-of-the-art technology. The iPhone 5 at 4" feels so tiny now, which is what is probably a reason why many users of flagship Android-based devices couldn't go back.
