Recommendations for Cheap, Reliable Web Hosting.

I've found a good place to register my domains (NSI suffers from the delusion that it still has no competition, apparently)...but there are so many web hosts out there with similar prices and features that I don't know where to start.

Basically, here's what I'm looking for:

Free domain parking (in other words, nothing extra to park a second or third domain on the same site for re-directs, etc.)

24/7 support

Good Uptime

~20 MB site packages with:

All the standard CGI stuff

Good Emailing / Aliasing features

Reasonable limitations on traffic

Free server logs / hit counter stats

I don't want to use Earthlink or one of the big boys because they -- like NSI -- are ripoff artists when it comes to creative fee assessment and bad service. Tried it once, never again.

Suggestions?

I too would like to know the same.

Does anyone know anything about Liquid Web ( <a href="http://www.liquidweb.com"; target="_blank">http://www.liquidweb.com</a>; )? I've heard several good AND bad things about them (no details). I would be interested in their professional virtual hosting package.

Well for reliable I don't think anyone can beat<a href="http://service.bfast.com/bfast/click?bfmid=30735717&siteid=39338684&bfpage=config urator" target="_blank">Rackspace.com</a>. If you're looking for dirt cheap, you won't find it there. But if you're looking for some serious support, uptime, and options, rackspace is the way to go and it's affordable if you have a reasonable business model. I personally won't use anyone else. YMMV.

Hostway.com has excellent service for about $30/month.The only feature they don't have is free domain parking;it cost me a one time $50 fee to park a second domain. There is however 300MB of allowable space.I don't know of any other hosting service that offers as much for remotely the same amount of money, and as I said they have very solid service,I haven't had a single problem with them.

<a href="http://www.macwrite.com"; target="_blank">http://www.macwrite.com</a>; has been hosted with them for a year as of March 1. THey are reakky ibe if the best cheap hosts, they have excellent uptime (99.9999%).

they are your best option, and also offer domain registration (OpenSRS member) and then use <a href="http://www.zoneedit.com"; target="_blank">www.zoneedit.com</a> for parking the other domains (first 5 zones free).

Thanks everyone - keep the suggestions / comments coming!

In particular, Onewoldhosting looks to be an excellent provider. Some great freebies that will come in handy, among other things. Looks like they're pretty reputable as well. Will definitely drop them a line and see what the total package costs would be, given what Im looking to do.

Regardless, I'm sure it's at least 50% cheaper than the same services as offered by Earthlunk and other mega-providers. Glad I asked you guys; had a feeling I could come up with some decent alternatives.

clonenode: good call. Blue Genesis looks to be on par with the afore-mentioned One World Hosting. I'll have to weight the plusses and minuses and see which makes more sense.

    "Peppermint Patty" (CBG)

Thank you for asking. I wish I could give you the low-down but my partner and I have some really cool ideas and we want to make sure we get everything registered and setup right before we start "spreading the word."

Once things are ready to roll though, most likely my signature will provide you with a direct link so whoever wants to check it out can do so....

Needless to say it is a Mac-centric kind of site, but that's about all the more I can say at this point..... <img src="graemlins/smokin.gif" border="0" alt="[Chilling]" />

Both my portfolio and comic sites are hosted under their server.

I only pay $5.95 / month for the hosting....including 100MB traffic/day and 100MB storage...the drawback is no CGI access with this plan
