My buddy and I are getting the job (woo hoo)! Anyway, I want to use my new iMac to hold all the mp3's that I will need. What software should I use to DJ? What other advice does anyone have for me? Thanks

I rememeber reading about a party mp3 program on MacNN. Its lik like a $15 shareware that lets you make a playlist on the fly (for requests) it seemd pretty cool, but I have not tried it... i'll look up the link when I have time... Digital Juke 2.0x is the name of the software tho... take a look it may be useful...

did you even look for the review on Digital Juke? or do you just like to inform people of an obvious feature of iTunes? I mean i'm sure most people know you can make a playlist (on the fly) in iTunes, but G4Dude was asking for some DJ software, which is what I suggested...

Hmm, i just downloaded that Digital Juke 2.0 thing and it sucks, that has to be the uglyest interface i've ever seen.

So, i went on to versiontracker.com and searched for "party" and downloaded the first three things it came up with. I suggest take a look at them.

Simple, I don't have any and i don't want to rent any. I think I'll use iTunes, hook up 2 extra monitors to my iMac and turn the visulizers on. That should create a pretty cool effect, what do you guys think about that?

Well we're just throwing out ideas right now. We're going to try several different setups before we decide on a final one. That was just one of our many ideas

how the hell could you do it without an amp and speakers? Of course I have these. It's not like I'm going to arrive with the "Pro" speakers and that's it.

    just checking.

Considering you didn't have the other dj equipment i didn't think it was likely you had a suitable amp and set up speakers. that's all

I'm no dj so I don't know but I'm pretty sure that home stereo speakers usually don't make for a good dj setup.

its seems as though he is not a real DJ, in the sense that he has A) turntables B) records C) knowledge of how to mix music flawlessly D) optional scratch abilities

he is just doing this for a _junior high_ prom

its not like he's spinning for coachella or something like that.

I spin, I've been doing it for about 8 months now, its fun, I have about a crate of records, and two very nice Stanton Str8-100 turntables, which apart from the aluminum cover they are the superior turntable(especially for mixing) I love them, but don't get me wrong I love technics 1200mk2s they are super super sweet, but after using a turntable with key correction Its hard to return to a more standard turntable.

my mixer is pretty shitty though, I'm currently saving to get a Vestax mixer, I forget the numbers but there is this one that my friend has that is totally kick ass....

    okay enough about that

you know what a great portable cheap and powerful PA system is

    <a href="http://www.carvin.com/cgi-bin/Isearch.exe?CFG=2&P2=410-822&P1=SYS1"; target="_blank">http://www.carvin.com/cgi-bin/Isearch.exe?CFG=2&P2=410-822&P1=SYS1;

its really loud, really clear, and really cheap(you can find it cheaper other than direct from carvin I'm sure)

do you have the JBL S312 floor standing speakers?

if so than those will do fine...I run my turntables through two 70 watt celestion speakers and they are perfectly fine however when I dj for the school I use the schools JBL PA system

    About lighting and the likes

antari makes a really kick ass fog machine for 70 bucks

and there are loads of tiny 10-30 dollar strobes that fill surprisingly large areas about, and there are bunches of cheap color wheels and color balls and that type stuff.

my friend was RELALY into lighting, he had an american Dj Light copilot(awesome light controlling box) he had about 20 colored lights that could strobe via the copilot he had like 3 strobes of various sizes, a 30 something inch mirror ball, and a liquid light thing thatprojected trippy images on any given surface, and then my other friend had the antari fog machine, all this plus my turntables and his computer, and we had some pretty killer parties down here...oh yea he had a bunch of high power speakers too
