Is it just me or...

...has Apple really been pushing the new iMac ads. For instance, today, while watching TechTV, I caught the iMac ad 7 times. Usually I don't see an apple ad more than once a week, and here it is 7 times a day. During the noon hour alone they had it on 3 times. I also wasn't watching all day. Only a few hours. I think it is great to see an increased presence in the media.

Has anyone else had any of these types of encounters before?

When the iPhoto commercial was on TV, I saw it about 20 times(if not more) per day on MTV.

Good to see a little more mac advertising around, instead of just the usual product placement and keynote stuff. I mean, keynotes are really just for geeks and the faithful, and product placement might get noticed, but then again it doesn't really communicate with people on a customer level. Apple needs to run more ads to reach more people, a great many of which aren't on the web, and don't know much about Apple, or M$, or tech in general. They just might by a mac if they new a little more about it.

Good points. The people that watch, say TechTV, probably eith own a mac already or are the type of PC users that would never think of owning a mac. They need to advertise more on normal stations and normal shows, like thay did on the oscars.

About TechTV - I don't know if this is a Canadian version thing or what, but they always have Dave Chalk come on between segments and talk about some new products or software, they guy is a complete dolt. He manages to use 5 or 6 big words to describe the simplest thing, I guess so he'll look smarter. And they keep showing OLD Mac hardware in these things? Last week, TWICE I saw this dink showing and describing a 400 MHz G3 Pismo PowerBook. This is sooo great for Joe Consumer to see. Oooooh, 400 MHz, ooooooh a 6 GB hard drive... Crap.

And how about those Pentium 4 ads? This man and woman go on about collaboration, how it's changing business, etc. They show a screen with a couple of IM programs open, with huge buddy lists, open chat windows, and they go on and on about how this is the new way to communicate, etc. Then they cut to the guy saying "The Pentium 4 processor is made specifically for this kind of workload."

Hmm. The best damn instant messaging processor on the planet? Cool.

Um, ok, maybe this was off topic, but it's been bugging me...

    Topic related content:

I have even noticed the new iMac running a lot in Alberta, and you usually NEVER see any Mac commercials. It's very nice to see for a change.

Must be a Canada thing Murbot. In the states, they almost always put a good spin on the Mac. They always are up to date in reviews and stuff and I think they give Apple a great amount of coverage for it's market share.

iDome, we don't sit around watching ads. We just watch TV and an Apple ad comes up.

If you have nothing better to do, watch TV. If watching ads is the highlight of the day - then maybe you don't have the ability to think with your own mind... BTW I have BBC news 24 on all day - but I don't watch it... It's just noise and there are no ads...

Ignore TV - live without dead time...

TV isn't the highlight of my or anyones day (I hope). If people are like me, they watch some TV every day. Most people I know do. Maybe BBC doesn't have commercials, but every american channel does, and it is kind of exciting to see an apple ad, since they are on so little. I don't know who you think you are to say I don't think with my own head. My own head tells me that when you've been at school for 7 hours and had homework for 2 not to mention after school activities, it is OK to veg out a little.

completely wrong. Apple should have had heavy adverstisemtn on TechTV years ago. The timing now is just perfect though. techTV is not a station for geeks. Many many normal computer users who just want to learn a little bit or have a problem watch.

Their audience also thinks of Leo, Pat, Chris, etc. as gods, They believe and follow every word they say. TechTV has been extremely pro apple since MWSF and their onair personalities are constantly praising and reccomending the new imac. If you paid attention to their chat rooms and message boards you'd see it is really getting a lot of attention. The apple ads are just what they need to really be pushed over the edge and maybe buy a mac

You are very right applenut. The only show I watch is "The Screensavers" and most of the people that watch that show ARE geeks. I do think they should advertise during the more consumer shows (Fresh Gear, Call For Help, Tech Live, Audiofile) but not as much on TSS. Any advertising is good though. I just think it would do more good on the more watched channels.

I agree that not watching TV is better for you. But, I enjoy watching TV but i know that there is a connection to watching too much TV and poor grades. I have friends who don't own TVs and they do great in school. And then I know people who watch TV, and they are not as focused and on top of things.

\tI believe that there can be a good balance of using TV as an entertainment source vs. it being a thing to use to waste time that could other be used doing something productive

I don't think TV is as much a negative impact on grades as video games are. I watch TV about 2 hours a night, but I still get my homework done and have a 3.9 GPA. I know a bunch of people who are obsessed in all kinds of stupid Playstation and stuff, and have a 3.0.

Sitcoms, at least, can spur the imagination. Video games only help hand eye coordination, which has nothing to do with math and english.

I personally think that 95% of TV programming is a waste of time. I've been TV free now for about 1 year and don't miss it one bit.

I watch about 2 hours of TV once I get home at night, before and during dinner, but once I am done with dinner, I do my homework, I do not know exactly what my GPA is, maybe .6,.7....but, my point is that maybe the idea of watching TV does not matter as much as how much time it can waste and cause kids to go to sleep much later, lose sleep because they have to wake up earlier the next day. <img src="graemlins/smokin.gif" border="0" alt="[Chilling]" /> :o
