    Because

    1) If it is simply OSX running on an old box, there is no reason why the CPU monitor should be a new version. And a v.2 at that!! (what could happen to CPU monitor so radical that the v. number would go directly from 1.0 to 2.0??)

    2) If the new CPU monitor is implying an as yet unreleased version of OSX, then there is no reason why the box should be an old one. Clearly, an unreleased version of OSX alludes to an unreleased box (i.e., "quad-G4/G5")

    3) and if it is a quad G4/G5, then I just won't accept that it takes more than 1.5 bounces for CPU monitor to launch ;-)

    It's not a Quad anything, it's a single 800mhz G5.

It takes more bounces because it's a big new app which does a lot of cool stuff like setting up clusters via ethernet/gigawire etc.

Believe as little of the above as you like...

    How about this:

It's a real box, 4x604e chip, running a new Mac OS X that is officially downwards compatible with 604e machines. After all Apple just got sued for "lack of support for G3 machines".

Maybe the next version of OS X is so much optimized, that it will also run fine on non G3 G4 boxes,so Apple decided to give it to the old machines as well, officially, without hacking.

Just an idea. Certainly more reasonable than a Quad G5.

It's a dual processor mac with two CPU monitor apps running at once, no more, no less. Not worth 3 pages of discussion at all.

The thing is, if you run two instances of CPU monitor at the same time and set them side-by-side, they both show exactly the same thing. The first bar would show the same thing as the third, and the second bar would show the same thing as the fourth.

sorry but no. the cpu bars won't show the same thing check out the 2nd page of this thread about halfway down. that picture is on a single cpu machine

I saw that picture, but when I run two instances of CPU Monitor on my dual G4, they display the same thing at the same time as described in my last post.

I have to agree. My dual 533 G4 dose the same thing both the even bars and the odd bars show the same level.

Check the link at the begining of the of the thread to see a better video of the Quad running.
