Apple does a good job of offering revised hardware along with new hardware every year so it's hard to restrain from buying a whole new phone every time.

Keep in mind that this will increase the stack height of the camera and thus either make the phone thicker or make the camera protrusion (as in 6, 6s) even bigger.  Just a data point for those making predictions.. better factor their design aesthetics into the equation.  Would Apple mess up their design for a better camera?

I will laugh out loud if the camera lens isn't flush.

MEMO TO IVE: I don't care if you build in an octo-lens camera system. Don't make a protruding lens. Pop that pimple.

Phones will never have that type of expensive technology. Photography is a big hobby of mine and I do use my iPhone camera a lot, but it will never replace my DSLR. I'm all for new technology in smart phone cameras, but it's impossible for a phone to ever compare to a top of the line DSLR.

I worked on cameras for Apple.

I agree with you.  However it's worth noting that the number of pictures with Apple's cameras have just surpassed those of Nikon on Flicker so I'd say that pfisher is most likely right when he says that "phone camera will be our cameras"... in a broad sense.

how long bf i start to feel like my 5S is outdated? talk of the 6S makes it feel old.

Wait. 6 months is fast. Many still have the 5S. You are not alone. The S cycle is always the preferred 2 year cycle. All kinks will be worked out. And u will get Apple pay from the get go for a full 12 months and not 11 months like the first day 6ers.
I will buy a 6S. I would buy a 6 S Plus except only if Apple solves a way to fold it.

Folding is no problem; they are still working on unfolding...but don't worry, I'm sure Apple will get the kinks worked out soon enough. ;)

    Force Touch

It flows through all rumoured iPhones in existence.

Stretch out with your Apple ID.
So, I guess...these are not the 'droids we are looking for?

You both make good points. However the Apple Distortion Field is in full control, so each release outsells the previous one. It just keeps getting better and better!

complete non-issue. something i didnt spend more than 3 seconds thinking about when i got my 6. it barely moved naked on a table top, which isnt how i use it anyay; and in a slim case its completely moot.

rather pathetic that this is what you have to cling on to in the hater-verse. hold on tight!

So Force Touch is just the "haptic feedback" by another name? Or is this just another angle on the theme?

I've been waiting for quite a while for this tech to translate down into workable product - I'm still using an iPhone 4 32Gb, so haptic is the only cool tech that would persuade me to upgrade. An iFixit replacement battery has kept me plenty happy in the interim.

Haptic feedback is actually a "NOKIA" patent that they never did anything with (until now anyway that they're Microsoft)... http://www.engadget.com/2008/07/08/nokias-haptikos-tactile-feedback-tech-revealed-in-patent-applic/

I'm looking forward to the 2015 iPhone model. I can seriously see myself going for it this year.

you dont need 16gb to perform an iOS update.

further, youre free to plug it into a desktop and do it the old fashioned way thru itunes. case closed.

I am confident that 100% or as as close to as makes no difference of those iPhone 6 buyers would prefer a flush lens.

You can do better than that.

non-issue, offering absolutely no practical value to me. thus.... do. not. care. in the slightest. but i do care about quality imaging -- thus apple made the right choice, and youre still just a guy whining on a website.

It's a ridiculous statement because the S version has new internals, just like the non-S versions. In fact, because it's using the same casing Apple tends to add some additional feature, often HW, in that model, all while using the same casing constraints that the non-S model had to deal with.

On smartphones, I imagine the dual lens camera would be used for optical zoom and low light performance. One lens will be wide angle, the other lens 2-4x zoom. Switching between lenses would would help getting subjects far away in focus. You wouldn't need digital zoom. Dual lenses would greatly improve low light performance on the iPhone as well since each would have its own sensor.
If they already have a 2-4x zoom on it, why would the other lens never need to be there? I assumed both lenses would be prime, one wide and one telephoto. Since they're so close to each other, Apple could allow seemless digital zooming between the two lenses without digital artifacts.

Meanwhile I just helped an elderly neighbor upgrade his pre Intel Mac mini from Tiger to Leopard and watched tons of updates get downloaded as I did it. Noticeably lots if security changes. Amazing Apple still does so much for a ten year old little Mac.

If the 6S throws in the same resolution screen as the 6 has or better; this will be my next smartphone 6S!

I will literally laugh out loud if the base amount is 16GB again.

I highly doubt that it'll ship with 32GB as base model. Why? Because Apple wants to make more money.

They already increased storage some by changing the models to 16GB, 64GB, 128GB. So by paying about $100 more, you get 64GB instead of the old 32GB.
Because of this, many people who wants more than 16GB of space is paying $100 more to get the 64GB version that is a lot more than enough for many people.

Imagine what happens when Apple uses 32GB for the base model and the iPhone models become 32GB, 64GB, 128GB. People who previously pay $100 more for 64GB that is more than enough for them will now buy the base model 32GB that is also enough for most people, and as a result Apple will earn less. And by using 32GB, 64GB, 128GB will result in the 64GB become really unpopular because previously paying $100 more leads to 48GB more space, but it is 32GB more now (of course unless Apple changes to 32GB, 128GB, 256GB).

Many long time iPhone users I know purchase the 64GB version as 16GB isn't enough for them. I used to always buy the 32GB version, however for the same price increase, the iPhone 6 gives me 64GB instead which made me really happy. If Apple changes the base model to 32GB, me and many other people will be buying the base model instead because 64GB is more than enough for me.

Therefore I think Apple will still use 16GB as the base model for those who doesn't use much storage space. And for those who are willing to pay $100 more, Apple is generous enough to give us 64GB. This is how they make money.

Dual lens is the only way in something that tiny they're going get decent telephoto results. Not a zoom lens per se %u2013 too many moving parts and low light noise %u2013 but a switch to a second prime lens of, say, 3 x std focal length, with digital zooming to take you out to long telephoto. If true, compacts will effectively become obsolete. The next step up in quality is the half-frame SLR.
