Apple's fifth beta of OS X Yosemite 10.10.2 continues focus on WiFi, Mail & Bluetooth
Apple on Wednesday provided yet another pre-release version of its forthcoming update for OS X Yosemite to developers, asking testers to continue focusing on problem areas including Wi-Fi, Mail, VoiceOver, and Bluetooth.
The new beta clocks in as build number 14C106a. As usual, Apple warns developers that they will not be able to revert back to previous builds after installing the update.
The continued focus on Wi-Fi underscores the issues that have plagued users of Apple's desktop operating system since its release in October. Among the problems cited by users are dropped connections, protracted connection periods that often result in timeouts, and poor throughput.
Mail also remains a problem, though the most glaring issues have largely been addressed in previous maintenance releases. There is no word on exactly what issues Apple is addressing with Bluetooth or VoiceOver, its navigational aid for visually-impaired users.

In other news Microcrud is giving away it's next OS: Windows 1.0 for free. I wonder how much that will affect it revenues and it's current $45 stock price. The decline of Windows OS will accelerate from here now down to 15% market share if you include tablets and phones in numbers?

Negligible. Companies rent Windows on a yearly basis. Your typical consumer never upgrades, they buy a new computer. I'd estimate less than 1% of Windows licenses are retail.
To give a estimate, look at Amazon. Windows 8.1 reviews: 900. Dell Inspiron i3531 laptop reviews: 1173. So you can infer that they sell more of one model of discount Dell laptop then they do Windows licenses.

SOME users, and a minority at that. I’m certainly not affected by any WiFi issues with Yosemite and never have been. I haven’t heard any complaints by various family members running Yosemite on their Macs either. Buy hey, this is the Internet where problems and issues get blown all out of proportion and conspiracy theories become reality, fiction becomes fact and communities of victims find each other and bond. The Apple discussion forums about this issue need to be on Comedy Central. There’s a core group of righteously indignant victims standing in a circle with their hand around the next guy’s wiener stroking vigorously, lamenting that they haven’t been able to get on the Internet since they installed Yosemite. They don’t explain how they made their posts though. Magic I guess. Of course some have installed 10.10.2 beta and STILL have issues while other don’t. Fancy that.
So don’t include me or mine as “plagued” users please. Oh that’s right, I’m just one of the lucky ones.

Interesting, since MS's revenues are mainly software-based and I don't see them ever getting really strong in hardware (as opposed to Apple's business model) - this could have great (negative) consequences to their long-term sustainability.

That's right. When you are not affected the problems seem trivial, but when you are they drive you insane and ruin your day. Go figure.
Don't worry, and if fact be happy that you are not included but the day you are I feel fairly confident you'll be at the head of the pack and that we'll all hear about it.

Because Apple are producing fixes and asking people to concentrate on wifi, Bluetooth and Mail.

DNS was fixed several betas ago, I am surprised that at least hasn't gone out to the public.

I have WiFi dropouts every day on my MacBook Pro with 10.1.1
Five times today alone.
I've had Macs exclusively since 1984.
Even the diagnostics went to hell with Yosemite. It used to be a reliable way to reconnect after a rare undetermined disconnect, but not since the upgrade.
At first they tried to blame it on my Cox Communications - my internet provider - as the culprit. Fortunately I was able to crush that by downloading the same random 25+ downloads not only on three computers, but also my iPad Air 2, iPad mini retinal and iPhone 6 plus all running in WIFI mode (in fact iPads are wifi only models) and they were all downloading between 150mbps to 168mbps.
When it came to the computers I did the following: computer #1 ran 10.10.2 + security update and Safari 8.0.2. Like clockwork the internet stops/stalls at 2 minutes 28 seconds. On computer #2, it was running 10.10.2 + Safari 8.0.1 + security update but tge internet stop/stalled exactly 2:28. On the third computer I set it up running 10.10.1 + Safari 8.0.2 + security resulting in no stoppage or stalling - just like my three mobile devices.
I even took it a step further downloading the files on all 5 devices and computers whike streaming movies through Netflix on the devices and only the two computers running 10.10.2 stopped/stalled at 2:28. (At least it was consistent. )
Each time before installing the latest version of 10.10.2 beta (including beta 5) I reinstalled 10.10.1 first (Command + R), zapped tge pram and even trashed the cache folders in user library to get a clean start. The results were not only the same BUT can be recreated every time.
Hopefully this WILL get resolved before they release it, because running a business that can not download anything that will take langer than two minutes and twenty seconds is a pain in the arse!

Well you're indeed lucky. When I need to print something, my mac mini with Yosemite sees the network printer only 1 out of 3 times if I'm lucky.
I still have Bluetooth issues. My Magic Mouse regularly (not every time but often) does not connect, how ever many time I hit connect on the BT menu. It will connect if it's powered before the Mac: the problem come if the Mac has already booted (as is my habit).
My suspicion is that some of these wireless issues are chipset (ie computer model) specific which would explain why some users see them and some don't. I'm pleased to say that I don't have any WiFi issues, only BT (Mid-2012 MacBook Pro).

?Why can’t Mail give me notifications of new messages WHEN THE APPLICATION ISN’T OPEN. Messages can do it. Mail in iOS can do it. Notification Center reorders the widgets whenever you restart your computer. What kind of nonsense is that?
People are still having trouble with Wi-Fi, apparently? Now they’ve gone how long without a fix; I understand the weeks before and after Christmas certainly wouldn’t be expected to be productive, but it’s the end of January now.
I may have mentioned these before; I keep a running list somewhere.

I do hope we're NOT getting 10.11 this year. I really want them to focus on fixing Yosemite (and then fixing the problems they never fixed in Mavericks). I have been irritated by issues with previous releases of Mac OS X but Yosemite is the first one that has disrupted me on a daily basis (bluetooth mouse won't connect, multi-screen working FUBAR broken, calendars won't sync reliably). It is a sorry state for a once slick and intuitive OS.
