To the person who suggested getting t-shirt, I'm ahead of ya. I ONLY wear mac shirts all year. That's probably why I catch so much flack. For instance, yesterday I wore a shirt that said pcs are slow (they are) and I had like 7 people swarming around me with all their mhz myth crap before a teacher came and saved me (he said that macs are faster). Today I wore one that said Windows is only good for solitare and that caused a whole lot of chaos.</strong><hr></blockquote>

wow no wonder you are getting harrassed, you are baiting them!

What do you mean my teacher is wrong? Macs are faster than PCS (at least my iBook is faster than my dad's P4).

I like to think I'm a funny guy to go to school with. I've got a pretty good sense of humor.

What do you mean I'm baiting them. I just wear shirts that show I like Apple. Most of them don't jab MS like those. Most are just mac shirts. I like to think that these shirts can get me into conversations were I can possibly get them to like or at least not hate macs.

Again I ask you-who are are the certain American minority you say who share it? I agree that there are "euro-snobs", same way that there are foaming-mouthed Americans. I don't think I'm divine, I'm English and self-deprecation is part of the national curriculum. And I love so much of American culture, literature, film, music, art etc. Of course I was waiting for that bit about bailing us out of wars, the "foolish socially/culturally " was a tad hypocritical all things considered.</strong><hr></blockquote>

I know you said to disregard it, but you're curious, so here it is.

    - About the wars: Yes, of course it has to come up. My tax dollars go to fending off Milosevic and dealing all of the arab/israel BS, supporting the world's only capable, sizable military, supplying the UN forces, and my grandfather's tax dollars went towards rebuilding Europe and Japan after the war. So naturally I am concerned with returned respect, since we clearly give the rest of the world so much of ours. And next time if we don't help out, then everyone will just hate us more.

    - About EU social ideal: Socialism doesn't work. I make the statement that it's harder for Europeans to grasp the concept of capitalism and limited government because so many are too wrapped up in cultural modes of thought. It's hard enough for Americans to grasp it. However, running a confederacy (nominally a union) through heavy subsidy and economic protectionism, and then coming out with some baseless statement like "In 20 years the EU will be the economic center of the world," just makes me wonder if there are any intelligent people at all in the EU policy making staff.

And so the Euro continues to gradually sink to the dollar, and we take the heat because the EU seems to think, at least subconciously, that we are actively doing something to make this happen to them. The truth is that most of our economic strength in comparison to your's is based on the simple fact that our system seems to be better than your's in that respect, yet it's hard for the EU to grasp.

Maybe now you can see my point.

First of all, I support mac advocacy, but there's more to life than Apple. Maybe try wearing some normal clothes, find some colors you like, and then start absorbing some finer matters.

Next, your teacher is right. You've heard this before:

Integer calculations: Pentum/G4 are on clock

vector calculations: G4 beyond 10x faster per clock.

So if you (A) vectorize your code and (B) do things that are vector intense, the mac will beat the shit out of the PC. Since the only intense thing I do is 3D modeling, I would have to pay a lot more for an equal PC.

    Lastly: find some hobbies.

Oh, I know there is more to life than Apple (although my family would say I don't). With all that is going on in the world now, it's hard to ONLY focus on Apple. For instance, my mom is running for school board here so I'm busy helping here. My family is also very involved in 4H, and I focus very hard on my school work. I also am involved in some after school activities (Newspaper, Honor Society, Computer club) so I don't have a lot of time for hobbies.

As for clothes, I have no desire to wear the ultra expensive clothes most guys/gals wear (Abercrombie, Gap, Hollister, etc). For the same price as one shirt, I can get like 2 or 3 Apple ones and therefor be saving up to get a new computer every 2 years or so.

If I had lower self esteem and cared much what people think about me, I would be trying to fit in and be cool. But I'm happy with who I am and what I believe in and don't really see the point in doing something to make others happy.

damn guy. settle down... it's a computer for christ sake. i hope you are making this into bigger deal than it really is, because i feel extremely sorry... not for you, but for the weirdos who actually care what type of computer you use. lighten up dude. the worst thing you can do is push apple on them... just let it go.

I would like to let it go. I've been trying for the last 2 years to let it go. I myself don't see what the big deal is what computer you use. I don't smother anyone because they use a PC.

(the following analogy is a bit extreme) Think of it in relation to WWII. Hitler and his crazy folk make up the majority of people in Germany (Bill Gates and his folk make up the majority of people in the computer industry). Hitler hated Jews/Gypsies/Homosexuals because they are/were diferent (same reason PC people hate us). If I just "Let it go," they will put me in the gas chambers (or so to speak). I have to defend myself. Even if I can't win, I want to loose feeling like I at least gave it my all.

Don't go all crazy about the above. I know it isn't appropriate to compare computers to the slaughter of 6 million jews (I'm jewish by the way), but I couldn't think of any other comparison.

Did they? That would be good since a lot of people here have Gateways. I know Apple's stock is higher. Anyone know about GTW or DELL's inventory or gross margins (I can stump them with numbers they won't even comprehend!).

Erm, you buy your Apple shirts? Gee, I get them for free and they just pile up in the drawer.

And I didn't say that you have to wear expensive t-shirts (aka abercrombie, gap, etc), but a proven way to support something is to be slick yourself. Of course, I really have no idea about dress-up high school, since mine had a dress-code.

Well, I buy some. A lot I do get for free from my MUG or at Apple Store openings.

You CAN'T dress slick without spending a lot of money. At least as far as I know. If dressing slick is considered wearing what everyone else wears, you have to spend a lot. I'd love to fit in more, but I'm a computer nut in a middle class family, and to me, a new computer comes before a new shirt.

Shit, I'm a mac guy and I'd even make fun of you. There are more than 2 kinds of shirts. There are *gasp* medium priced shirts. Ya like skating? Get a couple Quicksilver shirts and they even double as Apple shirts (get it, "quicksilver" harharhar). Also, in one post you say you don't want to fit in, and in another one you do. I bet they DO treat you like the homosexuals, I truly believe it. Why don't you just tone it down. It's like a gay guy wearing "gay pride" shirts ALL the time. You're wearing your "Apple pride" shirts, get it? To these people, you're forcing your beliefs on them, nobody wants that. You are basically asking to be made fun of. I understand you like Macs, so do I. But shit dude, I don't get it. I wore an Apple shirt to school ONCE because I was out of regulat t-shirts and got made fun of all day. Oh ya and at everyday tasks, Macs aren't faster. I also saw a Frys ad today for a Compaq 2000XP for $799. A comparable Mac costs $2999. Think about that for a minute.

So I suppose you'd say that my dad shouldn't support Israel now by wearing Israel shirts and going to rally's? I don't force beliefs on anyone. I just wear the shirts I want to wear. It's not that I don't want to fit in, it's that I'm not going to try if it's going to mean abandoning what I like. I AM proud to be an Apple user. If I was gay (I'm not) I'd be proud of it because it would be the decision I made. I apologize for my high self esteem, but I'm going to do whatever makes me comfortable. By now, everyone knows I use macs and with the exception of like 5 people, they respect that.

Maybe macs aren't FASTER at everyday tasks (they are just as fast) but they are more reliable, easier to troubleshoot, easier to use, better looking, have more features, cost less to maintain, and are faster on the more advanced tasks. I'll take the $2999 mac.

Damn it, I really didn't want to be mean to you but stop thinking your so above everyone else and understand where people are coming from!!! I swear to god, the more time people spend looking at the computer, the worse their social skills and ability to interact with people become.

For me everyday tasks involve graphics, 3D modeling, and mathematics. I break out a word processor about once every two weeks. And if your code is vectorized, which can basically be done to anything, the Altivec unit kicks in. since everyday tasks could be vectorized, the G4 is faster at them, technically.

Slick is not wearing what everybody else wears, but wearing something that looks good and is a bit different. I don't think Abercrombie has anything to do with slick. That's more rich-kid-grunge than anything. It's like a beige box. If you're a mac fan, you have to have style these days, and be a bit different.

I know you didn't mean to be mean. I don't think I'm above anyone. Everyone is different and everyone is going to think that their lifestyle is superior. I agree that the computer hampers social lives, but for me, the damage is done. I don't think I don't have a social life, but being more mature than most teenagers (I wish I wasn't, but I am), I look below the surface of people and so the people that most would die to hang out with, I look at and scold. Probably the reason I don't have a girlfriend.

Thanks Splinemodel. However, I'll give G4dude this, most teenagers don't do 3D or anything like that. They web surf and chat and play games, which I admit the PC is better for.

I wish everyone thought the way about style that you do. All I do is "Think Different" and this is how I choose to.
