Mac.com webmail Beta!

Just seen this on MacNN:

[quote]Mac.com Webmail has been released from Apple. The beta version of the web-based Mac.com email allows checking of mail from anywhere, instead of just from a setup email client. <hr></blockquote>

The link is <a href="https://webmail.mac.com/WebObjects/Webmail"; target="_blank">here</a>.

It seems to be quite cool, and it has a Mac OS X mail look about it. Excellent! First impressions are good: it loaded quite quickly on my machine (using dialup).

This has been a long time in coming, and I, for one, am glad it has arrived.

And I, for one, am VERY happy to see this as I often need to check my mail away from my computer at home or work. I have used mail2web for YEARS but this looks like it will be a nice replacement. I also recently got my mother signed up with a Mac.com account and have been having trouble explaining why there isn't a web interface for it like Yahoo mail has. No more troubles there...

Perhaps OmniWeb's compatibility preferences have to be set so it identifies itself as IE 5.1?

Anyway, this is going to make Mac.com very handy. So far so good, though I wish I could bounce spam from here.

    This is super.

    It's the best POP webmail service I've used since <a href="http://www.mail2web.com."; target="_blank">http://www.mail2web.com.</a>;

Oops - I'm only on beta 2. Didn't realise the new one was out. Anyhow, I'm upgrading now

Great but also about time. They cracked down on private mac.com webmail services hosted on...mac.com a couple of month ago. And iloveapple.com is dog slow.

    This look excellent

Works in Opera too. Far as I can tell.

    Cool, but damn.

It doesn't work on my Windows machine at work. Sure i can access it from my Mac, but then why not just use the e-mail software I have on there? I would love having access to my mac.com e-mail from ANYWHERE, Mac, PC, whatever...

It works at my school's Network Internet Computers, which are just a black box with an ethernet and some version of some Oracle based OS. It supports Windows stuff, so I imagine it would work on Windows.

    haven't tried it yet,though

Just punch in <a href="http://webmail.mac.com"; target="_blank">webmail.mac.com</a> from any web browser and you're in. I can access it fine from Windows 98, ME, NT4, and 2000 with no problems at all.

It's all well and good to discuss with us, but please give Apple the feedback also! That's what Beta's about
