Why is this article on Apple Insider? Has this site become Starbucks Insider now?

Has anyone actually tried to reload their card with Apple Pay? There isn't even an option for Apple Pay when selecting auto-reload, only "Add credit/debit card" and "PayPal Account". WTF.

No, but for your blasphemy, you must now sacrifice a goat to her Goddess the Green Mermaid... 8-)

Maybe CurrenC and Google Wallet should let users top off their Monopoly money using ApplePay.

Starbucks is very smart. Even without Apple Pay, the way they do it now is fast and easy. But you do have to pull your phone out of your pocket.

I've found that I spend money a lot faster when it's digital and so fast and easy. If I'm pulling out cash, I do that little value equation in my head, leading to buyer's remorse. I'd eat a lot less SB if it was cash only.

Actually, their sandwiches are a pretty good deal. $5+ gets you this (and it's fricken delicious):

In the Starbucks app, select Pay from the top menu, then hit the Reload button. Tap the field marked Paying With and select Apple Pay.

I've been to a Starbucks. Their coffee is terrible. I can't believe people actually drink that stuff. I guess it comes with free WiFi though. Is their WiFi even encrypted?

Seems like it’d just be easier to, you know, use Apple Pay for the payments instead of a pointless middle man card.

    Great likes think a mind.

Uh not really- why would Stafbucks want to relinquish control of tracking what is being sold through their cards and app? No brainer.

    I guess Statbucks is doomed?

Their rewards program is linked to their card. Can't do that with Apple Pay exclusively... yet.
This method works just fine. Personally, I would prefer not to have my bank account dinged for $2.55 a few times a week. I'd rather just load up the card when I see fit and use that. It's in Passbook anyway.

Thank you. And I like getting my freebie from them. Not to mention you also get free apps and music too.

It doesn't work, even after updating my Starbuck's app. App freezes at the point of selecting ApplePay to reload card.

You're reloading it wrong. Do like I do- hand the cashier a $20 and load it before purchasing.

Worked fine for me.  Pay -> Reload -> (pick an amount) -> ?Pay -> Confirm -> (Pay with Touch ID).   Used my default ?Pay credit card.  iPhone 6 w/ iOS 8.1.3.

When I tried to reload my Starbucks account with ApplePay I selected ApplePay, it selected my credit card then it got to "Processing" and then crashed.
Don't know if that is just me or a bug in the Starbucks version that just rolled out or not.

I had an interesting ApplePay experience yesterday. I stopped at a McDs on a drive back from a long trip, and of course, paid with ApplePay. But the screen asked me, "Do you want to use your Amex Rewards points to pay" and out of curiosity, I answered 'yes.'

Sure enough, it debited 710 points from my rewards account to pay for my Big Mac meal!

    I am quite impressed.

    Yeap same for me

Right, you can Reload a card with Apple Pay currently, however, the application does not provide the Apple Pay option when selecting Auto-Reload. Seems odd they wouldn't add this, perhaps it's a restriction on Apple Pay's end and not a Starbucks issue.

That's exactly what's happening to me. I'm not "holding it wrong," people. There is an actual issue for some of us.

Perhaps you didn't get the update?

Because ApplePay is the top listed option on my Starbucks app today.

ETA: Ah, *auto-reload*. not familiar with that route.

    Sounds like an app bug.
