My friend runs a server that I co-admin...though porn is banned on it . And I don't think we'll be renaming it the AI Server anytime soon...been up for about a year, everything got trashed awhile back....that's another story for another time though...anyway there is about 30 gigs of files on there and 0k porn . Lots of Apple Comercials on another drive though, with a small collection of MP3's.
And I would just like to put this out there...carbon anything from Hotline SUCKS! Use Frogblast and save yourself a truck full of pain in the ass....

simply put, at this point in time the govt./feds don't give a rat's fuzzy little ass about warez. they really care about porn going to minors. if we had porn on there, we better be damn sure that everyone is old enough to look at it. that's a royal pain in the ass, so no porn.

So true. I signed up for the Ars DC Hub and everything only to find that there's no client for the Mac. Oh well, another reason to look forward to having a PC. That and eDonkey.
I wwould set up a server, but I';m behind three obstacles. Cable modem (low bandwitdh), router (Carracho server doens't like it), and Airport.

Here's my take on stealign intellectual property - if the company can still make money on it, don't steal it. Unless it's form Mincrosoft. So, no NEW movies. No NEW software. Except Microsot Office 2003. Microsoft will always charge $500 for it, whether it gets stolen or not.

As the youngest member on the board (to my knowledge), I don' t think the absence of pr0n on the server will really protect any minors. As you can see, the youngest members are the one advocating pr0n the most!
i'm going to try dinking around setting up a hotline server now. it'll be slow, but just a test. if there's anyone online who feels like testing it out, post back in this thread sometime relativly soon, i'll give you IP #'s and the like.
edit: an AI hotline server is up and running now, but i've only got a whopping 25k bytes for uploads. i'm in the process of adding files. about halfway through my MP3's collection now. it turns out that adding too many files pukes the server.
when i've got it all up and running i'll try and figure out users/passwords and the like.
FWIW, I've run a Carracho server non-stop for about two weeks, constantly filling my upstream without a single crash. The only times I ever took down the server were when *I* wanted to, not because a crash forced it down. I just suggest you run CarraFix (if you're on OSX) to stabilize and control your speeds a bit. CF worked GREAT for me and was extremely useful for capping the Carracho bandwidth when I needed it fo other things.

I leeched one CD last night, but your server puked out while I was asleep. Go easy on the poor thing!
I hope the server doesn't get so popular that everyone is downloading and we all get 3kbps like all of the crappy public HL servers.
got movies, tv shows and mp3's up now, i'll work on the other stuff later. wanna see if it can be stable
