you know, i was thinking last night, maybe an AI game server would be better than carracho, hotline whatever. There are some good multiplayer games out there. Maybe vote on what games to host on certin months. UT one month, Age of empires the next, then anything else alot of people have.

well there are a lot of members here so we could probably do both...

PC_KILLA is game. Those of you who played SF will remember me.
So, I wonder how long until someone "backups" (cough, cough) the Jaguar preview release cds. I mean, its important that they have a backup, just in case they lose the cd in transit between wwdc and going home.

Yeah, I was wondering the same thing. I'd really like to get my hands on it.
A friend of mine was supposed to get it to me tonight... but he's gone AWOL. Bastard. As soon as I can get my hands on it, I'll be sure to share it since I haven't personally signed any NDA.
Just remember: 6 CDs take a LOOONG time to download. Though, I'll probably only get 4 of em.
you know what we really need though is some kind of gnutella type network that's OSX and PC compatible, where instead of having one machine as a server and storage, every machine is used, but instead of being on a public network, we could have a private one.
i think limewire will do that, but it sucks. anyone know of a opensource and/or free program that would do this?
i'm sorry but hotline sucks balls. terrible interface and options. it also sucks since anything upped to my machine that's OS 9 is going to get broken (thanks for the heads up on this starfleet, i'd forgetten).
we need something where people can just log into spiderweb type deal, instead of a spokes and hub type deal.
i have another friend who's dying to do the same thing, and we've been looking around but had a hell of a time finding both a Mac and PC client.
anyone out there have any ideas?
i also like this idea because it would hopefully alieve the problem we have with bandwidth. in case i haven't already mentioned, i'm only running on 256k DSL, which gives you about 27K when downloading or uploading, which is crap.
not really, but sort of. this isn't really going to work until i can get some sort of static IP. i looked into DNS software but it's a pain in the butt.
i'm trying to find something a little more stable than hotline. i was unimpressed with the UI etc.
it was a royal pain in the ass, and i screw around on my computer enough that i was consistantly restarting.

have you tried http://www.no-ip.com/? easy, works great make up your own xxxxxx.no-ip.com name and its free. it wakes it easy for me to remotely access my computer and run a small web site work great with dynamic ip's and its free.

This is what DirectConnect does. I'm on a private DC hub right now for ArsTechnica users, it's awesome. (Right now it's at 197 users w/ 5.81 TB of data)
It needs 5-15kbps of constant bandwidth (depending on how many users are on the hub) and I don't think it's very processor intensive.
Main problem: I don't think there's a Mac DC port that allows you to be the host. There is a JavaDC out there somewhere that might run on a Mac, but someone w/ Windows would be needed to host.
interesting groverat. i'll have to look into it. i'm right in the middle of another possible job hop though, so now isn't really the best time for me to take on new projects. if and when i get on up and running, i'll post it here.
the CPU isn't a problem. the bandwidth wouldn't be either, if that's really all it takes.
Yeah, DC (DirectConnect) would be a great idea, but so far impossible on the Mac, because even if you find a PC to host the hub, then you still lack a Mac client that allows to share files. JavaDC works great but it does not allow to share files...
any way... in the meantime, a Cocoa GUI for eDonkey has been created!!
This was never something I expected out of AI, pr0n-swapping and such. There's no reason to fear any reprisals against AI if people are swapping Jagwyre on a carracho server is there?
Just wanting to keep my AI safe from Apple Legal.....
I've never done gnutella or carracho or any of this stuff.....guess I'll have to go read up on this whole thing sometime.

It's not AI that's doing this it's AI users. As usual any public discussion of where to acquire warez will be removed.

Nah, because not everyone plays games.

Did your server project pan out Alcimedes?
I hear Western Digital is coming out with 200 GB hard drives. What better use for such a device?
Now, I recall hearing some problem about drives bigger than 130 gigs. They required PCI cards and software.. Was that OS 9 or X?
Porn is easy to find. So is the real thing. So in conclusion, porn on an AI server is a waste.
After all, remember how big those 6 CDs of Jaguar builds will be... mmm, Jaguar...
