Good find! Wow, well, that certainly looks like what Apple has said about the Photos app, and the integration with iOS & a webbrowser. I really wish this will be a home run, as I am having quite a few 'issues' with 10.10 and iTunes12. Early 2015 can't come soon enough. And if it's not 'upto snuff' I'll simply continue to use Aperture.

I'm hoping to find some time to try the service above this week and give it a 'mini review'. Also, how Apple could (possibly) do it better. The biggest thing I like is that it uses the synced database approach across platforms. Actually, Google had this long ago with Picassa (which was purchased), but the interface is such an abomination that it's unusable, regardless of the "prying eyes" aspect of everything Google.
OT: happy to see this post notification seeing dropped into my inbox. New articles and posts from people I follow don't make it through over email anymore. I tried disabling / re-enabling it, no dice. Also changed email providers which didn't fix it. So if anyone thinks I'm being lame for not responding it could be I had no idea about your post in the first place.
Have you tried adding [email protected] to your (trusted) contacts, just to be sure it's not getting thrown out as spam? I have multiple mail accounts across different services, with AI added to my 20 odd year old Yahoo mail. Never have a problem.
Note: on an aside, the next thing that needs fixing across the internet is forum/website discussions and comments. The top down, static thread nature of topics and comments is becoming untenable. A thread like this one after a certain time, IMO, needs to be topically merged. So many good ideas, comments, and info... scattered haphazardly with repeated comments, opinions and often times troll-suppression... that it becomes difficult to keep tabs on it all. I do this myself by keeping good notebooks on Evernote. On more important threads than this one, such as troubleshooting tech problems, how many times have you run across answers or helpful user links to answers scattered over multiple threads? Apple Discussions forum comes to mind, which again IMHO... is a disaster. Naturally, we all know why this is probably never going to be addressed: because it's not in the financial interests of the websites, and quite the contrary. Every site wants to be "sticky", not just the.... well ya know...

No excuse necessary. I'm terribly busy of late as always come this time of year, but also a couple of weeks ago decided to step away from the forums here and elsewhere. I realized that I was spending far too much time reading, and responding repeatedly, on subjects that I've already stated my opinion on. No need to repeat myself, or re-read repeated opinions that often times just upset me. Life is far too short... and getting shorter by the day to revisit the past continuously. That's not to say that the banter hasn't been enjoyable (mostly!) and chatting across threads with folks such as yourself is always fun and eye-opening.
Anyway... I'll always be hanging around and keeping an eye out here for developments, people and topics where I think I might be able to make a positive contribution, and let the rest of the folks have their entertainment arguing.

I posted above a few weeks ago how I envision Apple's Photo app to be in the future, which will replace iPhoto and Aperture. Lo and behold, a company has created what I *think* Apple will also be doing.
Released at the PhotoExpo in New York... if you're serious about synced photo organization and editing across platforms, devices... with and without the cloud.... you owe yourself 2 minutes to watch the video and another 2 to read the write-up at PetaPixel.

However, Mylio looks to be at best a networked version of iPhoto, not of Aperture. Also, anyone with a half-serious photo collection will be looking at $100/year if not more.
$250 for something that Apple is going to absolutely crush with Photos, simply because it's free, doesn't seem like a smart business path to take. Unfortunately, the reality is that unless your company is Apple or Adobe, you really have no chance whatsoever of making any serious headway in this market.

Possibly. But that doesn't seem like a very lucrative deal either. They're selling their own app that competes directly with Apple (free) and Adobe (deeply embedded in the pro market). No matter how you slice it, it's an uphill battle. Particularly with Apple, where they can pull the plug on you for any or no reason.
Pretty much everything that is in iPhoto can be found in Photos, but some things did not make the cut. It’s worth noting we were using an early build of the software, and things could be added both in the public release and shortly after.
The long-running star rating system has given way to favoriting photos with hearts, though existing star ratings are preserved from your old photos and accessible through search.
iPhoto’s odd built-in mail tool is also gone, and has been replaced with kicking photos out to Yosemite’s Mail app. That’s an extra thing to have set up outside of Photos, but on the plus side it means that those messages will actually show up in your sent folder instead of into the ether of Apple’s internet as they did before.
The syncing tools for Flickr and Facebook, which let you set up an album to automatically post to either of those places, is gone. That’s been replaced with Apple’s system-wide sharing tools, which means a little more legwork is required if you're relying on iPhoto for keeping online albums up to date.

Well. I use that upload to facebook button in my iPhoto on Snow Leopard a lot. A lot. And the stars system. Yet another app dumbed down. Ugh. And there it is. It's an application not an app! It's a computer not a phone! It seems like Snow Leopard gets better every year in comparison to new Apple OS and softwares. Weird. Someday I'd like to upgrade! But the reasons continue to dwindle. Old QT Pro was better. Old FCP was better. iPhoto has a lot of useful features Photos does not. Whatever. My MacBook 2010 with 10.6 seems better than new Windows or Macs. With an SSD it's a spry as ever. Jettisoned Safari a long time ago after it became crappier with every update too. Well eventually I'll upgrade, hopefully by then it will have some of this stuff back. Also wish iPhoto did more video stuff and treated video like photos more.

Photos really is for the Apple ecosystem. Works perfectly with Apple-only gear. 3rd party support will be minimal. Doesn't matter much actually; I'll simply import from my DSLR to Aperture, apply curves, geotag et cetera and export to Photos.
It's not like Aperture is going to stop working all of a sudden.
