Hi,

See this article from Yahoo! UK, to see how an Apple slogan is in general use, without even a referrence to Apple.

Of course, the idiots that are against "Rip, Mix, Burn" would naturaly be against buying CD's in the first place, since Ripping requires the CD.

I don't think copy protection will soar. Since most people would rather have an iPod than a bulky CD player and 100 CD's to carry around, it's clear to me that CD sales will dip if they're copy protected.

On a side note, It's time for me to make friends in the CS department. . . . Last year a group of profs, seniors, and grad students wrote an algorithm to crack the record industry's copy protection system.

Funny that their example is Eminem, who sells millions of CDs. If he sells so many CDs, then why does he need copy protection? Hmmm?

I don't think that any popular artists need copy protection, they are already grossly overpaid. Hell even John Lennon doesn't deserve to be paid so much. And all this pay does is hurt the artists...the story repeats itself over and over, someone goes from making sustenance wages touring clubs to having gobs of free time and millions of dollars. Suddenly they disappear in a cloud of drugs and narcissism. It's not healthy to be paid the way pop stars are paid.

Furthermore, most of the revenue from CD sales goes to MIDDLEMEN, guys who don't do anything of value.

And not even 100 years ago, musicians made their money by WORKING for a living, i.e., by touring. This concept of cutting a CD and then living like a bum while getting rich off the proceeds is quite new to human society. I think it's wrong. Why shouldn't musicians have to work like everyone else? I say they release their music for free, and make their money by touring.

As a benefit of free music, success would be spread to a number of bands, rather than the handful of acts that dominate MTV's playlist. It would be more fair, with hundreds of bands tasting success and making good money, instead of a few bands making millions and the rest living in poverty.

I do not believe a CD is worth $15 or $18. I think that I would gladly buy twice as many, spending more money, if they were $10 apiece instead.

I'm all fine for artists profiting from their work, but companies who make the records should get 1% profit, not 90.

Well then artists will still get the same amount of cash at say 3 or 4 dollars a CD. Seriously, they don't get that much from every CD. They just sell so many of them.
