Should I do it?

What? What's he gonna do you ask? Well, actually I am thinking about transferring my G4 to a nice big aluminum (or what not) PC case with lots of drive bays. The only thing is this Quicksilver is just so slick looking, its beautiful....and it would bring tears to my eyes to see it go. Destroy a work of art and render it useless?possibly. But with a transfer I could use the DVD-RW, my Lite On 24x CD-RW, and a Zip drive. Or could I? I'm sure I could use the CD-RW, but maybe not the Zip drive. I'm wondering how complicated it is and anyone has converted a Quicksilver into a PC case? Would I be able to get a DVD-RW, CD-RW, CD-ROM, and Zip to work? Also, this thing is loud as f8ck, so a different case would allow for better cooling to keep this machine quiet. Your opinions are welcome as always.

I say you would be incredibly stupid to actually do such a thing. Yeah....void out your warranty and risk such things as zapping your system with static electricity. Then stick it in something so ugly as a beige box just so you can hook up some periphials that you could probably rig up easier and cheaper without the risk of ****ing up your system.

Better yet, send it to me and I'll let you have my G4/500 to play with.

Is it really thaat loud? I have a G4 466 and I find it to be quite quiet, about as loud as my old PM 8100.

The major factor is that the coolermaster aluminum cases are about 300 bucks. I'd rather go and buy better fans for your quicksilver, and you can toss that CD or zip into a firewire case while you're at it.

Less than 300 bucks, and you don't have an ugly case.

    No!

You never know what could happen, and this thing is brand-new. I wouldnt even do it to my G4/400...in 2005.

That sure seems like the hardest, most roundabout, way of hooking up an extra CD-ROM I've ever heard of.

What do you need a Superdrive, a CD burner and a CD-ROM for anyways? I could see hooking up a cheap external CD-R for direct copying or something, but why all three?

As someone else mentioned, I think you can get sound deadening kits on the web pretty cheap.

The chances of you find a case with fewer fans, that you could use to outdo Apple's airflow engineering - and using fewer and/or smaller fans, are pretty slim.

    Just my opinion.
