Why doesn't Apple sell video cards at there store?

It seems like it's impossible to buy a better video card that's 100% for sure going to work out of the box. Apple should have a page at their online store for purchasing ATI and Nvidia cards. I have a GeForce 4 MX right now and would love to upgrade to a Ti card but don't no where to find one for Macs. <img src="graemlins/oyvey.gif" border="0" alt="[No]" />

    That's because the GeForce4 Ti will be available only from Apple officially, just like ever nVidia product available to Apple before it. And the system requirements for ATI's card are at the ATI website.

    I see. But shouldn't Apple at least have the option to buy a GeForce 4 MX and GeForce 3 Ti's for other people that want to upgrade their video cards?

    I'll take any 10.2 compatible Nvidia card. Where can i buy the cheapest 32Mb Card and how much will it cost me? Thanks..............................

    A better question is why doesn't Apple build video cards. Come to think of it, do they actually build anything? They don't make the CPU, ram, optical drives, hard drives, bus technology... They make the mobo and that's nothing to brag about. For a hardware company, they don't seem to build too much hardware. They are completely dependant on third parties for their most important hardware technology. Hmmmmmmm...

    Nobody in his right mind would by a GeForce4 MX or GeForce3 Ti with the GeForce4 Ti looming. The question is will Apple offer different flavors of GeForce4 Ti?



    They've already committed themselves to selling a standalone GeForce4 Ti 4600 in the near future.



    For budget solutions, ATI is the way to go.

    Was the GeForce 3 Titanium series ever available on a Mac? I only remember the original GeForce 3. And second, depending on how much it costs, the lower end GeForce 3s (Ti 200) is an excellent value on the PC side if you want a DirectX 8 part so it should also be a pretty nice value on the mac side.

    Difference being that Compaq, Dell, Gateway, and HP have all the product and vendor support they need. Apple doesn't. That's why they should actually build the hardware that is crucial to their business.

    Well it really depends, personally, I'd buy a Geforce 3 (if I had an AGP slot on my mac) if it were enough of a margin cheaper wise (wow, awkward sentence). The thing is that say if you have a dual G4/500, going from GF3 to GF4 really won't make a huge difference since your CPU is the biggest bottleneck in that situation.



    Therefore, it'd be a great idea if Apple sold addon Geforce 3 cards for say..$150-175 (trying to be reasonable), then again, it would compete with Radeon 8500 sales, ATI would be pissed, etc.
