iMovie HD was incredible. I could do things in iMovie HD that I have never been able to do in any of the latest offerings by Apple. I wish they would bring it back, however it had problems like when cutting a clip, sometimes the clip was added "automatically" downstream in the video multiple times. Apple, ARE YOU LISTENING?
I started making movies when I was 4 years old on an 8mm film camera. Even as a volunteer soldier in Vietnam, I had a Super 8 camera with me and an M-60 machine gun also on a back of a gun jeep. I earned my degree in this field after my discharge, worked in television news (even lived in the Hotel Ukraine in Moscow when I freelanced in the Soviet Union) and now that I'm about to turn 63, I still have a passion for making movies.
A few years ago I was doing great things in iMovie HD (God I loved that software) and iMovie 11 came out and I thought Apple had watered-down what at one time was a very powerful and easy to use software video editing tool.
I have recently bought two more Macs (27 inch iMac loaded and an laptop) and tried to install iMovie HD on both of them, and I'm having no luck getting HD to work anymore. I'm also having absolutely no luck in trying to learn the iMovie that came on my new Macs....
The old iMovie HD was very easy to learn and powerful. I used it to edit a video from when I last freelanced in Somalia (when out troops were sent there for Operation Enduring Freedom) but now, with the latest offering from Apple, I'm like a fish out of water and I hate this new iMovie.
Does anyone know if there is a "fix" that will allow me to use iMovie HD on the new Macs? There is no way in God's green earth the new software can be understood in my old brain, and I want to make movies again.

There's a quick start video here for the new iMovie but the interface does have an unusual setup:

Final Cut Pro X has a more intuitive layout, although it costs $300:
If I add music to my scenes, iMovie HD freezes and I can't save anything. This didn't happen when I was using it this way several years ago. Also, when I add a still photo in a scene, the image goes white.
It worked so well in the past and now just locks up. And many times when I cut or trim a scene, the same footage is automatically added somewhere downstream.
I am using the new iMovie 10.0.2 and have been able to import stills and movie clips, but cannot seem to access transitions or any other features to complete my films. Not sure what I am not doing but have used iMovie for years on older Macs. Any suggestions?
no matter the old version or the new version , iMovie is trying to update itself which is a good thing. But for me , I shot videos with an external mic which can cpature more vivid vistual pictures, but when I load iMovie , no audio or just one audio appears, so I asked Apple but no one reply , so I have to ask for help for some third-party app. I have to convert them then load into iMovie, hope this can work out by iMovie.
What I'm missing is the ability to import an iMovieMobile project into the desktop version. I'd love to be able to begin a project in iOS or OSX versions and port to the other. Begin a rough edit in iMovieMobile and send it to the desktop for image and audio adjustments/enhacements. Or port the basic edit from OSX version to your iPad or iPhone to re-import and work again later.

Another option is Adobe Premiere, the single app is $20 per month (after 15 months, FCPX would be the cheaper option):

What is going wrong with iMovie HD, is it not installing or not opening?

This no longer works. Sign the petition here: https://www.change.org/p/apple-update-imovie-for-mac-to-allow-for-import-of-imovie-for-ios-projects
