Apple suppliers extend Lightning cable production to Brazil and Vietnam

Hardware manufacturers responsible for supplying Apple's official Lightning to USB cable accessory have moved production beyond China and into Brazil and Vietnam, according to an updated Support Pages document.

In a change to a support webpage that helps customers distinguish genuine Lightning cable and adapter accessories from knock-offs, Apple on Friday added Brazil and Vietnam to the list of official countries of assembly.

Previously, markings on Apple's Lightning to USB cable were limited to "Designed by Apple in California" and "Assembled in China." As of today, accepted text includes "Assembed [sic] in Vietnam" and "Ind?stria Brasileira," each appearing on the cable about seven inches from the USB connector.

As usual, no cable or accessory manufacturers are mentioned, though major Apple supplier Foxconn is known to run facilities in both countries.

Earlier this week, Foxconn came under fire from Brazilian officials who accused the company of dragging its feet in ramping up production. Reports claim Foxconn has less than 10,000 workers in five area facilities, a number far below expectations that anticipated the creation of 100,000 new jobs. The firm sold its plans as a chance to transform Brazil's technology sector, promising big gains from $12 billion in capital investments.

Call me crazy, and I am sure many will, but I expect to see Apple's China footprint to further reduce.

    "Assembed [sic] in Vietnam"

Cool that the misspelling will remain.

Vietnam only has 80 millions (>%60 is under 30) people vs China over 1 billion. How much can it take away Chinese labor force? 3%?

With the workforce moving to more and more automation anything is possible. Vietnam wasn't the only country listed either.

So is there any hope that we will ever get better quality and more durable Lightning cables? I swear I go through at least 2 a year.

    From Apple? Doubtful.

You can get decent cables from other sources though. I bought cables from http://www.juicies.com a year ago and they're all still perfect.

Apple and Foxconn received tax reduction in Brazil to improve IT industry and market by reducing the consumer final prices.

    1. The investments were wery low,

    2. Prices were never reduced. (The World´s highest among Apple products).

    3. Apple and Foxconn set their profits in the sky.

Both are lying about their real intentions so this "strange" movement is an attempt to escape a millionaire lawsuit.
