Hey, all.

I've checked <a href="http://www.theapplecollection.com,"; target="_blank">www.theapplecollection.com,</a> the Mac Surf Shop, and newsgroups, but...

WHERE CAN I GET A APPLE LOGO NECKTIE?

Any suggestions? Muchas gracias!

Count me in for an Apple tie. I have ties with "apples" on them, but I want the real thing!

I've looked. for a long time. I have never found one. I have found a lot of strange apple things but never a necktie.

I know Steve's not into this sort of stuff, but I REALLY wish he'd loosen up a bit. If nothing else, it would be another revenue source for Apple AND some free advertising.

I think it's safe to say that many Mac user and Apple loyalists would spend ridiculous amounts of money to buy some cool Apple-branded merchandise (apparel, hats, mugs, calendars, pens, etc.).

Sell it at the retail stores (duh...no brainer), as well as make it available for purchase at the online Apple store (for the millions of people who don't live near one of the Apple retail stores).

Talk about a huge spike in sales...

No kidding. Every time I buy an Apple computer, from my first Apple IIgs on, I jealously hoard the two included stickers, waiting for precisely the right thing to put them on.

One can always run off one's own contraband at silkscreening shops and such, but that won't do well for a tie.

    Steve's against this stuff?

I thought he'd love to have us all struttin' our Mac stuff in certified Steverific Black Turtlenecks with Faded Jeans. Hehe one time when I was really tired when I went into an Apple store, and I went to ask an employee a question, and the guy turns around, and he's wearing a black Nike shirt with the swoosh where the Apple is. I was really tired!

I thought Apple liked money though... I mean isn't it every company's credo to sell anything, even poo, as long as it makes money? Why else would there be Gigapets or Ch-ch-chias? Or the classic pet Rock??

Come on Steve, surprise us this MWNY! Wear a supa cool tie, and then as the "...And one more thing..." say it's on sale now, at the Apple store!

Yeah, cooop...that's what is so maddening. I've heard (from applenut, Eugene and others) that all this crap is available...IN CUPERTINO, at the Apple campus store (or whatever it's called).

I mean, it would be different if they didn't do it at all, period. Then it would be like, well okay...whatever.

But they DO sell this stuff. But MOST people don't live in Cupertino, CA.

But we'd still like to lay our money down for the stuff. Weird. I was certain that would be one of the little sections at the Apple retail store: Apple merchandise and souvenirs.

    Nope, guess not...

The Apple Company Store indeed sells lots of interesting merchandise. Pens, shirts (in addition to t-shirts, they have silk shirts, sweat shirts, jackets), notebooks, portfolios, caps, keychains, baby shoes (don't ask), swiss army knives, and probably other stuff I've forgotten. They also have free posters of whatever's out at the time (last time I was there, they had a stack of free iMac posters).

FWIW somebody asked Steve this question (why they don't sell Apple merchandise at Apple retail stores) personally at a recent company-wide information session. It was the recently promoted Phil Shiller that answered. He said something along the lines of it costing Apple too much time to keep the designs fresh. (I don't necessarily agree with the answer, just paraphrasing what he said.)

Bonus: Here is a picture of the exterior of the Apple Company store taken at the end of March. I figure it's relevant to this discussion.

I remember when I went there, it was before the Retails stores. Well, maybe when Apple opens up its SOHO store this summer (it is confirmed) they will have to do something with all that extra space on the second floor?

Anywho, can I get stuff like this at MacWorld NY? <img src="graemlins/smokin.gif" border="0" alt="[Chilling]" />

not sticking them in the stores I sort of understand (the stores ar supposed to be 'cool' a rack of cheap shirts may be seen to look 'tacky'). Not putting a page on the Website I don't understand, sell the stuff with a bit of a markup charge shipping, all the complicated stuff of setting up a delivery network is already done.

There has got to be money in it,<a href="http://www.redlightrunner.com/"; target="_blank">this guy</a> seams to make a living by using the Company store as a sort of wholesaler.

    I called the Apple company store earlier today;

It seems that, if you know exactly what you want and are willing to send them your credit card number over standard email, they can and will send it to you (provided you pay shipping and CA sales tax (8.25%)).

I would really like 7 or 8 shirts and 2 caps!

No; the best I could do was muster a few vague descriptions from the employee; he said they weren't set up for that kind of distribution channel, or something along those lines.

I think they should sell the stuff (at least) on the online Apple Store. Think of the little order add-ons that would happen. "Hmm, I'm spending nearly $2000 on an iMac, what's another $29 for a shirt?"

Plus, they could have little incentives that would get some of those mindless boneheads out there to buy more machines. Say, a free polo shirt with 23" HD Studio Display purchase. I'm guaranteeing you they'd sell more hardware that way.

I honestly can't think of anything that would keep them from doing this. Fresh designs? Whatever. It's not like they re-brand the company every two years like most other computer makers.
