Now that it appears that Audiogalaxy is all dried up where else can we as mac users "share" music? I really feel as though I might have to start buying CD's!!! I cant do that considering I have no money . Where else is there for music?

Believe it or not, your public municipal library. It's free, you get to encode it yourself, and it's a great way to expose yourself to music you'll never hear of from your friends. No elitism intended. Libraries have interesting music because library curatorial staff are interesting and educated people who know about the history of modern music, and what to buy so as to document that history. So whatever you like now, you can often find its forgotten predecessors that never hit top 40 but whose influence was felt throughout the industry.

You might need a CD polishing kit, though.

Edit: Spelling. 3am, what can I say?

All depends on where you live, I'm sure. Vancouver's main library is great. New York's is better. The Library of Congress is perfect, and in fact complete. If you live in a smaller town, you won't have much luck.

Well when I lived in NYC (Queens) the library didn't seem to have anything I'd listen to. I haven't even been in a library in the past year that I've lived here.

A typical response from a PC troll. Seriously, though, it looks like gnutella is the only way to go right now. There are also carracho and hotline servers that offer music, but searching for a particular song/album is like looking for a needle in a haystack.

Hey, you can run those on your Mac with VPC, that wasn't purely a troll.

(Well, it was half-troll, you got me on that.)

i think the ny being referred to by allen christopher is the city. as in: manhattan. nu yawk has 1 of the largest and best library systems in the country.

but libraries are so uncool, especially 4 muzak. so i use the gnutella network. limewire sux tho. i suggest peepz learn the CLI, and get "gnut" (i think u can get it at sf.net). I haven't tried it in a while, but Aquisition is a native macx gnutella client that people might like.

They don't have top 40 bubblegum flash-in-the-pan music in libraries??

    MP3 Rage:

    <a href="http://www.chaoticsoftware.com/ProductPages/MP3Rage.html"; target="_blank">http://www.chaoticsoftware.com/ProductPages/MP3Rage.html</a>;

Works good for me MOST of the time, and it's Mac-only, I think. OS X-native, of course!

I've been using v4.1, but apparently v5.1 is the current release. I'm downloading it now to check it out.

I suggest you honkys get X (as in 'X windows') running on your OSX so you can experience the wonder and joy of openNap. Just install Gnapster on top of Gnome/gtk+ and instead of connecting to napster.com connect to, say, 12 opennap servers in 12 different tabs (like chimera! except illegal!), and search them all at once. I use it to swindle some pretty obscure techno that you crackers have never heard of, pretty sweet I tell ya. And if you can't find it today, check back tomorrow, because when you have, say, 3 TB of music at your disposal, you are bound to find it.

Whenever I feel like stealing from musicians, I fire up Gnapster. Check it out.

Aww yeah, homegirls, that's what I'm talking 'bout. That's 'Gigs' circled in red. You can connect to all of the servers in that list at once.

Does this mean a bunch of musicians brought a nasty suit against AG also? Further, does it mean Sputnix is dead too? I hadn't heard anything indicating this until now....

Since Sputnix uses AG, yeah Sputnix is dead.
