Desperate enough for Apple to bluntly lie to the general public.
It's too bad though that Apple chooses to spend millions of dollars on a sophist ad campaign instead of actually improving their products.

No offense, but neither Dvorak nor you constitute as the average computer buyer. Dvorak also knows that his comments generate hits and that's good for his site.
But when people that ask me whether they should buy a Mac, their biggest concern is that they will be incompatible with the rest of the world, and these commercials are designed to make people realize that it's not the case.
Plus, weren't you one of the people who, around the time of the 'comes in colors' iMacs, said that just showing the pictures of the computers and not talking about them was bad for Apple?
Stop being so cynical all of the time and go back to Think Secret will you?
They make a decision to try a new (different) product than what they were using... they like the new product over what they were using... the manufacturer tells these thousands of people to "write-in" and tell us about your experience... they do... some get chosen... they get flown-out to be wined, dined & filmed while being asked about their "switch" experience... no scripts... no propoganda... the ads are born.
Now these poor "every-day" people need to have personal attacks made on THEM...? not just the company they support...? That's just childish. So what are you saying, Dvorak...? I should judge what computer to get based on the PHYSICAL appearance of some of it's users...? Idiot.

I personally think Apple is far from disaster. The truth is people are switching. Even if those people in Apple's commercials are fake, it doesn't matter. Apple is just try to show that switching from PC to Mac can be done. The Switch ad is what got me to switch over. In till I saw the commercial I did want to get a Mac but I was still unsure of if it would be easy or even be worth me spending my money on some thing new that I could already do on my PC. Now that I am switched I won't go back, because in general OSX is far better and so is 9.2.2. Windows has more then enough general problems for me to not want to use it any more. OSX has a few things here and their also but in general it is better. I went from a week ago of knowing nothing to now be able to use a MacOS like I have been doing it my whole life. I am 22 and I used Windows for 10+ years never touching the MacOS. Its people like me that can actually say if the switch is smooth, worth while or just a waste of time and money. I found the switch smooth and worth while enoughf for me to say goodbye to Windows or atleast to the point where I will never buy a PC again. I have VPC with Windows 2000 just for my few Apps that Mac doesn't have. Dvorak is amazing!!! That guy just likes to rip on Apple in general, even going back to the first iBook, I find that guy more funny than any thing. He makes a lot of pointless remarks that may make sense to him but the general public that knows Apple and uses mac on a regular basis know the truth.

I dunno guys. He points out a lot of important problems with the campaign. I think I have to agree with him on this one. Calline a PC a "Horrid little machine" is not going to help gain market share, just enrage people that use PCs. One of his better articles I'd have to say.

Hardly. Average PC users are either going to agree with that kind of bold statement, or be intrigued by it. They don't know what they're using or why; it's just a damn computer. They don't do anything that can't be done on Mac OS X, and and all they need to do is get that message. If they can grasp the Mac moreso than Windows, they'll use it.
As for the Ars Technica crowd and such, they ridicule everything Apple does, and wouldn't switch anyway.

Why is it so hard to believe that these 8-People out of MILLIONS of computer users, are telling the truth about their computers...? What's so hard to believe about 8 People out of hundreds of thousands of OSX users who have had their new Mac for a SHORT TIME and it hadn't crashed as of when they wrote their piece to Apple...? They buy it... plug it in... it works... they (possibly) unlike us may not have installed anything extra to make it unstable or add conflict... that's so far-fetched...?

Anybody can sit back and flame each other; Thats been going on since the age of 5. But to acually grow up and give a valid argument by actually reading someones entire post is so much more meaningful. Sometimes it seems as though some of you just read enough to have an excuse to flame someone.
Is Dvorak wrong with some of the things he says...yes for some, no for others. For me, yes. But he is in it for the ratings and to spark debate. I am in it because I love working with my macs and didn't really care one way or the other for my PC's. Do both platforms work for people?..Obviously. I choose a mac, not because they are cheaper or faster. I choose it because most of the time it works the way I told it to work. I don't have to understand the way a program works to use it. It just has the feel of a luxury computer. I am happy paying the prices I do for what I get, or I wouldn't buy.
