Easy there Anders. <img src="graemlins/oyvey.gif" border="0" alt="[No]" /> If you understand why we like Macs while the other 95% don't seem to get it, you should then be able to realize that the same is true for the CoS. Educate yourself on the subject before you spread FUD on said subject. <img src="graemlins/smokin.gif" border="0" alt="[Chilling]" />

But back to the topic. What company has more loyal fans than Apple? That would be Micro$oft. Yes I know, it's a rather perverted definition of "loyal", but loyal nonetheless.

Easy there PooPooDoctor, Anders has as much right to his opinion as you have to spread your religous FUD.

My apologies for spreading my "religous FUD" And by the way, if you have problems understanding English, get a dictionary, no where in my post did I say Anders didn't have the right to his opinion.

I´m rather enlightened on the subject of religion in general and the sociology side religion specific thank you. And though I am a fanatic atheist I have respect for the function religion have for societies and individuals, regard science and religion as similar on many levels (in function, not in what is the truth) and general consider new religions as no different as the old ones I stand by my comparison. The members of CoS may see it as explaining Life, Universe and Everything for them but from another point of view its a buisness no different than Coca-Cola. Its not spreading FUD.

Well... this "debate" is a no win situation. Resumes aren't proof that you know all there is to know about a subject. I'm not a member of the CoS, but I do have good friends that are. I have come to respect them for their integrity. You don't have to "prove" to me that you know what you are talking about for I know your intention is to spread FUD on the subject, pure and simple. So why all the pretense? You remind me of a PC user spreading FUD about the Mac.

Did I claim that? I see CoS through a sociologists set of glasses and I know that there are other sets out there that will enhance other aspects of CoS. One set is that of its members but to let the view from the inside be the only one would be rather foolish wouldn´t it?

And I have good friends of at least four religions. I respect those people and their beliefs but that doesn´t mean that I can´t "go behind the skin" and analyse the religion and its function in society. I do that all the time with the educational system and criticise how its function isn´t what its claimed to be and yet I studied sociology for three years and still have three years left.

Well you "know" a lot don´t you My intention is to debate the issue, pure and simple. But since you know my reasons better than myself I really don´t see any basis for discssion with you on the subject.

Are you able to spot the difference between someone saying "Macs sucks" and "Mac browsers aren´t as fast to render HTML as PC browsers and can´t be upgraded in the same way PCs can"?

As long as you won´t discuss the substance of my claim (That CoS can be seen as a company taking advantage of its customers loyalty) you are the one spreading FUD. You are the one going for the man instead of the ball.

Dumb question, but what is this CoS you are all talking about? I was gonna say another good answer for this past would be southern baptists... but just a thought.

If you're looking for a car company with a rabid fan base, it's Mazda. Well, not mazda per se, but Mazda rotaries. Some of you may be familiar with my pro-rotary stance. . . I am minor league. There are nearly 17000 members at r7forum.com, and in order to be in the forum you have to be a part of the Mid-America Rx-7 club. Still free, but it's another source of junk email. Also, Keep in mind that only 5000 3rd gen rx-7s were brought to the US.

There are people I know who have all 3 generations of Rx-7. Even worse, there are people I know who have all 7 Series of Rx-7s. The only car that may have a bigger cult behind it is the DeLorean. BMW is a pedestrain car maker, aside from a few models, and the M series isn't really a cult. Porshes don't seem to have such a rabid fan base either.

But yeah, It's kind of strange how so much of my wealth is in the form of cultish obsessions.

But speaking of cults. . . . Mormonism is a business with very dedicated subscribers. Seriously, it is a business. I'm not being figurative. It's legally a business.

I know what CoS is, I think (Church of Scientology) - but what's FUD?

Loyal fans - for some reason I think we are on a safe bet when we talk about auto manufacturers (bikes and cars).

Harley Davidson, Audi, Porsche, VW, BMW, Jeep and even Mazda rotary engines have rated a mention... I'm more a fan of Alfa Romeo myself. I'm loyal to the brand, but not to the extent as I am with Apple. For starters, I'm not hitting their web page like I am this one.

Having just typed that, I would say that AI has the most loyal bunch of users (consumers?). God knows, it has consumed many of my waking hours this past week! <img src="graemlins/embarrassed.gif" border="0" alt="[Embarrassed]" />

Nope. They have more sales, but they don't have too many "fans". I mean, you don't see forums called "DellInsider" or rumor sites like "DudeSecret", "DellRumors", or "SpyDude" all over the web.

However, over in the UK, Risc OS still has a good deal of fans.

I hate Wal-Mart. In addition to destroying local economies, it's a blight on the landscape and is destroying America's soul. I am not looking forward to the future where there is a Wal-Mart, Home Depot, or some other superstore around every corner. Ironically, Wal-Mart distributes a "How to survive against big businesses" packets to local businesses. I simply do not like the atmosphere of Wal-Mart, everytime you go there, the help is new. You ask "Where can I find this brand of solder?" To be replied "I think, it's uh, somewhere overwhere on a shelf..."

And the people who give out smiley faces at the front....everything about it bothers me.

If I were a socialist, I would hate wal-mart. However, I consider myself to be a capitilist, and in my opinion, Wal-Mart is capitilism at its best.

People like to say it kills local businesses...the businesses it really affects are chain stores like a k-mart or the like. Ma & Pa shops are small and niche as it is, so a super center isn't going to hurt them much.

But how can anyone stand it's cheap atmosphere? Do you know they turn over half a million employees a year?

I do not like going to places where the faces are always new and unexperienced, albeit they are fairly unskilled jobs.

I, myself, go to a place called Town Paint, the store is more welcoming, not cheap, the people are persistent, not always new. And remarkably, the prices are cheaper 90% of the time, dont always believe that they are really "bringing low prices" or whatever their campaign is.

It's improper for you as a Moderator to engage in slandering members of AI with remarks such as "he might mean Female Urinary Device." You are crossing the line.

This, I don't understand. I don't need or want an extravagant atmosphere. I'm at a store to purchase goods and services. I'm not there to admire the chandeliers, the lether trim, the thick carpeting or to be annoyed by salespeople. It probably takes 2 days to train a cashier to do 95% of the workload, and thats the most difficult grunt job. As long as the mean employee career lasts &gt;1 month it's not a real problem. I don't need advice on products and if I can't find something, then their layout is crap and I won't be patronizing that store anymore.

I wish Fry's would cut half of their staff of lackey's and lower the prices. Sometimes you walk thru an aisle and there's 6 or 7 of them fooling around. Circuit city employs a bunch of vultures, and half the stuff you buy there you must get help from a salesman. I only go there if there's a hot deal. Any store in the mall I have ever seen sucks too. Flasing lights, music, trendy furniture and scented air again, all things I don't need. Maybe their market studies say it influences enough people to increase sales but I just find it annoying and insulting. As you've probably guessed, I'm a man.
