    loved the dvorak dig

[quote]"This is 2002. Where's the Apple brainwave-based input device? Or the Apple virtual reality display? Or even the Apple sexbot? People have been speculating about that since January and they've failed to deliver. And... where... where's the Apple perpetual motion machine? Yeah! They should have to make a f**king perpetual motion machine!"

Turning away momentarily, Dvorak whispered to himself "Yes! Yes! They could never do that! I'm brilliant!" <hr></blockquote>

[quote]Q: I will be attending Macworld New York next week and am concerned about the dress code. Some friends of mine are going and are insisting it's casual, but I'm worried that I'll be under-dressed. What should I wear?

A: Your friends are incorrect. Since the first Macworld Expo, every one has had its own dress theme. In January it was come as your favorite Lord of the Rings character. I went as Boba Fett. I know he's a Star Wars character, not a Lord of the Rings character. I just think Boba Fett's really cool. I go as him every time. Any-hoo, this time Apple has asked people to come as their favorite TV chef. You know, Graham Kerr, Emiral, Yan Can Cook, William Shatner... Knock yourself out. I'll be dressed as Boba Fett. He's so cool.

Yeah, that site is pretty funny. It's "The Onion" of the Mac news/rumor sites.

I wrote the guy months ago when the site first went online and told him so, and he wrote back saying "wow, that's quite a compliment...I LOVE "The Onion"! That's what I kinda had in mind...".

    So...

I offered him a couple of suggestions and ideas, some of which seem to have been used. It's a one-man operation, top to bottom.

At least it was 6-8 months ago.

My favorite (from week of 3/10):

[quote]According to the Register, the poor SPEC benchmark results found by c't are due, not so much to the slow speed of the PowerPC chips found in the Macintosh, but to the "very old code" in Mac OS X. Mac OS X only recently became the default operating system for new Macs.

In an attempt to mitigate the fallout of these results, Apple hastily convened a press conference today where Steve Jobs outlined the company's new OS strategy.

"Um, er..." Jobs said, "We're going to build a new operating system and it's going to be called, um, uh..."

Jobs then wrote "Mac OS Y" under "Mac OS X" on the white board in front of him. "See, Y comes after X but, uh, we're going to pronounce it 'eleven'. Um, yeah."

"We may do some customer research on that first, though."

Apple's revolutionary Mac OS Y will include compatibility layers for both Mac OS 9 and Mac OS X. "You'll have to launch OS X after launching OS Y," Jobs said nervously. "Then you'll have to launch OS 9 within OS X. Or something like that."<hr></blockquote>

"See, Y comes after X but, uh, we're going to pronounce it 'eleven'. Um, yeah."

    Great stuff.
