I own AAPL stock. I think Apple is woefully behind the competition in this space. And waiting for some sort of utopia in terms of content deals is silly in my opinion. Even if all the content deals or to hammer it out yet Apple could at least update the hardware and UI so it's on par with the competition.

I own AAPL stock too. And my faith in Apple has been rewarded handsomely. And I think that Apple knows what the **** it's doing, as they have proven to the world countless times. The "competition" right now is irrelevant. These dirt cheap Roku or Amazon boxes are not a very lucrative market, and Apple should be in no rush to get something out the door simply to "compete" with these irrelevant products. Apple also took it's sweet time with it's payment solution, and did not release anything before all the pieces were ready- and we see how that is turning out. Releasing it sooner would have stunted momentum and growth.

Roku is probably Apple's strongest competitor. Yes there are cheap options but right now Roku's top STB costs more than the Apple TV. Worldwide Apple sells more because the Roku is available in only a few countries but in the US they outsell the ATV.

Old hardware, crappy UI, no SDK,no Siri support, no universal search etc. I'm sure even Apple would admit privately that they're behind. The only question is what's causing the delay.

hmm lets break down your list of "woefully inadequate", shall we?

    - old hardware: never had an issue w/ the job-to-be-done (streaming content). spec-driven products arent apple

    - crappy UI: never had an issue. move focus, click button, relax. problem?

    - siri: not a woeful omission

    - no universal search: ok, one valid point

...so lets see, you got one out of four. but negative points for pretending to know what apple would say.

they arent behind -- the rest of the clones are catching up to them.

    words kinda matter.

Well, it was the only thing I was really interested in.

Don't see any other hardware being shown there.

But, I guess it is a DEVELOPERS conference so I guess I should not really get worked up for new hardware.

ya think? its a dev conference for developers. while apple has occasionally announced new hardware at WWDC, that isnt the norm nor the focus. putting all your hope on that is a fool's errand.

If local station content is the reason for the delay Apple should get the networks deals in place as quickly as possible and work on local content down the road. I know that local content would be a huge differentiator but it could take quite a while to get those deals done.

yeah except you have no fucking clue if you're right and won't until Monday.

    I was right.

If Apple is waiting to introduce the new Apple TV with the TV service, be prepared to wait a LONG time.

We will be in "hobby" mode fir a long while I fear.
