If Steve makes the iPod the show stopper the crowd should do this...

With Spymac.com reporting that this MWNY will be all about the iPod I am beginning to worry, even more.

Steve Jobs, "Thank you and good morning, its great to be in New York! Lets get started. First we are going to go over the next exciting update to Mac OS X, then onto the iMac, then to the digital hub, and finally to the iPod."

Crowd, "Booooooo..."

Random person, "Get the **** off the stage!"

Steve Jobs, "Now, I am sure you are goin to enjoy the show, please let me continue or I will leave."

Steve continues at this point and goes on to do the Jaguar bla bla bla junk. Then he moves on to release the iMac 17 inch wide aspect ratio edition priced at 2,199.

Cowd roars, "BOOOOO, go back to Cupertino!" This chant continues for 3 minutes. Steve is now on the verge of walking off as he nearly violently tries to persuade the crowd.

Steve Jobs, "Please be understanding of the current economy and i am sure that our next announcemnt will make you all very pleased."

At this time Steve calls Phil Schiller up on stage to do a Power Mac bakeoff with a Dual 1 GHz G4 against the 2.6 GHz Pentium 4. They didnt use a 2.8 GHz P4 because Steve said, "We couldnt buy one anywhere." The bakeoff starts and during the quiet someone from the crowd screams out, "ITS RIGGED!!!" and just then a bullet goes whizzing by Steve's ear and shatters a cinema display.

He goes onto the digital hub section of the keynote at which time he unveils the iPod remote control and Apple branded metal case for the iPod.

Horrified, the crowd chants, "Leave the stage, leave the stage, go the **** home."

Steve surprisingly stays on the stage and remains calm.

Steve calmly says, "But there is still one more thing."

Steve Jobs then unveils the 20 GB iPod with real headphones!

The crowd reacts violently at first screams and shouts but then riots break out. The Javits turns into a mad house and Steve takes off running for his life. He escapes in his Jet which was standing by for takeoff.

LETS HOPE ITS NOT THAT BAD!

    Let's hope...?

Dude... you started this off by saying that's what people SHOULD do... which is it?

I still don't understand why people expect so much...? SJ has stated repeatedly in the past that he does NOT want MWNY or MWSF to be primary vehicles for rollouts or announcements.

He shouldn't have to announce ANYTHING! It's just a frickin' KEYNOTE. He does not deserve the disrespect of being BOOO'd off stage because he doesn't announce WHAT you want, WHEN you want it.

I'm sorry, but I just think that mentality is assenine and immature... even if you were just joking... it still plants the seed of resentment in others that are not smart enough to make-up their own minds what to think.

Why foster such negativity towards the company that we all have a common affinity towards...?

    I just don't get it.

I'm not trying to "rail" on you... It's just that regardless of what's discussed in Future Hardware... it has NOTHING to do with Apple. Just because people here... some smart, some not, some informed, some not... decide to speculate on what they THINK or what they WANT out of Apple for Future Hardware... it has NOTHING to do with the reality of what Apple is actually up to.

You ALWAYS need to read the rumors and speculation with a HUGE grain of salt. NO ONE HERE knows ANYTHING for sure... even if it's a reliable tip... Apple can change their minds 30 times before the actual keynote... I'm sure they're modifying that PowerPoint presentation all-the-way up to 5 minutes before the Keynote.

Expect nothing, enjoy what they give if you so desire... but don't blame Apple for not delivering the G5-Powered, DDR enhanced, BlueTooth enabled, iWalk just because someone in an online forum "analyzed" the market and "heard" a passing rumor and filled-in the pieces on their own.

    Peace...

Yes, yes he should, and yes he does. No other company has more forgiving users than the 5 (3.5) percenters left in the Apple camp. It's time for the other shoe to drop, dammit!

If Apple kept running their business to accomodate the "fanatics" like us and NOT the rest of the consumer market... they would be FOOLS. YES! We need an updated PowerMac... and signs indicate that it's coming... SOON, even... but that still does not mean that he (or anyone) deserves public humiliation and degradation just because they are not meeting YOUR personal needs.

The reality is... the CONSUMER market is helping to SAVE Apple right now... I'm sure they ARE trying to keep the pro market on course and make improvements... but it's the consumer market that is keeping the cash-flow coming... and most of them are not the die-hard, online forum people that you see frequenting these boards.

Pro stuff is coming... maybe not as fast as you want it to... but do you honestly think Apple is UNAWARE of the current conditions and are not doing EVERYTHING they can to remedy it...?

They're not idiots... yes... they make mistakes, but they are not idiots.

Well... enough of me going-on about it. Think what you want... I, too, am in need of a bump in the Pro lines and will welcome it when it happens... but no matter what heppens in the next 6-Months... I (personally) believe that Apple is fully aware of what's going-on and have an actual business plan to help them get there... just trying to line their ducks up.

    * Who knows...? Maybe I'm wrong... but I hope not.

We'll see. Steve knows he NEEDS to show something of interest (yes HARDWARE too) but they might not have anything ready in time. Their recent behavior suggests they've got nothing and are looking to spin dissapointment as a function of the web-media/rumor-fan community, who, in the illogic of it all, will be by turns both insignificant as media, yet (when it comes time to point fingers) a significant influence on consumer perceptions. Which is it?

No-no, dissapointment deserves a healthy dollop of humiliation. I care about as much for Jobs' psyche as he does for my wallet when he takes to pricing his little silicon marvels.

How about they cut the lights at the end of the keynote address and raise the curtain, revealing Queen playing Bohemian Rhapsody in front of a huge iPod poster, and at the end, everyone raises up their iPod with the backlight on just like you raise your lighter up at the end of a rock concert. That'd be cool.

Edit: And then the right people lower their iPods so that it makes a bright white Apple symbol in the crowd.

Admittedly, I wasn't reading into the humor aspect the first time through... after reading through a bunch of threads all-over this and other boards... seing people whine and make idle threats as to what they'd do if they don't see "X" "Y" and "Z" at the Keynote... it sorta rubbed me the wrong way...

My response may have been a bit off-the-mark and hasty... I'll admit that... but it doesn't change the fact that I was (still am) sick of people whining about not getting precisely what THEY want from Apple. It just so happened that this was the thread I replied to after a bunch of "negativity".

Didn't mean to spoil the joke... sorry. It just seemed "mean spirited" the first time I read it.

    Just call me Kill-joy.

Actually, I agreed with you the first time. Attitudes like Matsu's are appalling. "Apple OWES us bigtime! Apple are a bunch of idiots for not releasing G5s! Don't they realize that all the other kids make fun of me? I've been a Mac user since WAY back at System 8.6!!1!"

Get a life, you losers. It's a company. They make products. You can buy them if you like them. If you don't like them, and if they don't make anything they like, then you don't have to buy anything from them. Apple is not a religion. Apple is not your friend. Apple does not owe you anything. Steve Jobs is not your friend. Steve Jobs does not owe you anything, including a demonstration of new products at a speech at MacWorld or at any other time.

I think that Jobs should do a keynote every so often where he unveils absolutely nothing new. Just gives a speech that recaps the last six months of happenings in the Mac world, and talks about how great it is to run Apple. You know, an actual "keynote" speech. ("Welcome to MacWorld Expo, and I hope you all have a good time. Thanks for coming, bye.")

Maybe if he did that once in a while people would get a grip.

They do owe you something (assuming you are going to MacWorld). Macworldexpo.com describes the expo as

    [quote]

Kick off opening day of the exhibit floor with Steve Jobs, CEO of Apple, who will deliver another groundbreaking keynote presentation in the heart of the Big Apple. Don't miss your chance to discover what's hot, what's new and what's next for the Mac community. The opening keynote has a long-standing tradition of setting the pace for the future of the Mac platform, and this one will be no exception.

Just talking about the last six months will not "what's new and what's next." Neither will it "[set] the pace for the future of the Mac platform."

I thought this was funny and harmless - it was clearly meant as good humor amongst all the MW angst. You could still worship a company/platform AND recognize their blatant downfalls.

I don't think it's about people getting what 'they' want. It's about getting hardware that's even remotely close to what's out there on the other side, and to somewhat justify Apple's prices. Yeah, it's time and new FASTer Macs ARE what Apple needs to get more converts. I don't think it's an option at this point. But, if Apple can not get the hardware to make a faster Mac, then they have to lower their prices. Since they are using dated hardware - that shouldn't be a problem.

Also, why the comment about 'gay pornography'? Are you implying that gay pornography would be worse to look at than straight pornography? To me, that statement along with your name calling and the fact that you were insulted or angry over someone else's humorous remarks about Apple and Steve Jobs is more disturbing than what the original post could ever be.

But we all see things differently and that's just my $.02 - no change please.

Oh, puh-LEEZ! No need to appologize... anyone who just does a "quick-scan" of this thread would easilly think he was actually quoting me... but anyone that knows me or my correspondence here knows that it ain't my style to just throw-out unwarranted insults like that.

    It isn't my "thing".
