And now for something completely different:

And if you like that, check out Apple's OS X tab if you haven't already:

Next time, Apple, code name your projects after birds or something. Yowzah!

Ya, that is ugly. Now maybe a tasteful British Racing Green 'X' would be a little more appropriate. Oops, wrong jaguar. Or maybe a jaguar clawing at the 'X' or something else involving an actual jaguar.

For what it's worth, I saw an '84 Eldorado with that same faux fur on the seats yesterday. Also had shiny green paint and gold wire rims. ya know what they say: "green's fo da money, and gold fo da honeys." Maybe Apple's trying to attract a new audience or something.

Hmmm, I wonder how long it will take for the Animal Rights activists to come out of the woodwork and attack Apple for promoting the usage of animal fur! <img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laughing]" />

Isn't it awesome, that Jaguar owns so bad that the only thing we can find wrong with it is the box it comes in?

But damn I must agree, that is one butt-ugly theme Apple's got going for Jaguar. I hope the next update is called "Macaw" or "Dolphin".

i think the biggest problem with it is that it doesn't match anything...not the aqua, plastic, glass or gray case of the PM

I think the tab looks fine. But the box? Could have at least beveled the damned x...it looks like the cutout fur of a DEAD jaguar.

Unless Apple was going to officially call OS X 10.2 OS X Jaguar, I see no reason for the Jaguar theme.

Yea, sure, the Jaguar box might not be the most thought out box Apple has ever done, but how about this:

Is it me or is that X logo a lot more slick and silvery looking than the previous X server?

    You be the judge. <img src="graemlins/bugeye.gif" border="0" alt="[Skeptical]" />

[EDIT: Added extra image/who thinks graphite will be replaced with that quicksilvery look? Here's to hoping!]

umm.... its just a 'beta' thing.. they even say it "code named Jaguar". I doubt they will shop the box that way.

In any case, I like it

On the box it says Version 10.2 Jaguar. What makes you think it's just a beta thing?

because... it would just be way too confusing.

Already laymen (and women) have to deal with the name not being pronounced MacOS "EXX" but "Ten" and now they will even have to try and figure out wtf a Jaguar has to do with an OS.

"Oh look dear, they have a nice kiddy OS they are selling that lets you have a virtual petting zoo or something"

Apple is OBVIOUSLY hot on the business/corporate trail and for Apple sales people to go to a big company (imagine GE/Honeywell/Ford, etc etc) and proposing Animal themed operating systems ... thats just not the way its done bubba.

You're wrong, that's the very box you can pre-order now at the Apple Store. The CD has the same stylings, anyone have a link to a pic?

I had a mind to try to spoof that, but the more i stare at it, the more i realize that you just can't spoof a spoof.
