Quicktime won't install - Who is to blame.

This is the first time I have had to use Windows NT and can not install Quicktime. The place I'm working this week only has NT systems and I would like to be able to see MW.



NT complains that I need Administrative privilege to install it. The MS MediaPlayer will install without Administrative privilege.



Why does Quicktime want to install something in a system folder? Why can't I install it in my personal area?



This are probably really dumb questions to those who understand it.



Is this Apples fault or is M$ not allowing it because it is Apple?



I probably should have packed my PB G3 to take with me this week. NT SUX

    That about says it. I had no problems installing and configuring QT 6 at work. Probably because our IT fella is a moron and I am also running Windoze 98. We have DSL...I couldn't at first get anything (time outs) then I switched to the HTTP Port 80 connection for streaming and it runs fine.



    Hope it'll work better on your PB G3.



    OH, AND WINDOZE SUX

    Ask your administrator to install it for you.

    I checked into it.



    It takes 3 forms, a phone call, and at least two weeks for it to be processed ( Thats Government efficiency in ASAP mode ). I will only be here two weeks.



    But the Real Question is...



    Is this Apples fault or something that uSoft is doing because it is an APPLE install???

    Clearly your NT logon profile will not permit you to install software (this is a safety feature set by your local admin - and can be easily be changed).

    No, Microsoft is not punishing Apple apps.



    You just don't have sufficient priveleges.



    As an admin, taking install priveleges away from the masses makes life a lot easier on everyone.

    I understand that I do not have the right privledges.



    Don't they both provide the same functionality.



    WHY DOES QT NEED TO WRITE TO A PRIVLEDGED FOLDER WHEN MS MEDIAPLAYER DOESN'T ???

    You need privileges because your network administrator but restrictions on your logon account so you don't download software at will. These privileges come in handy when you have users downloading hordes of cheesy shareware (like dancing bears and swinging gorilla 'desktop pals' which slow down the computer). These privileges are customizable for the administrator to set for certain users. For example, they gave me an admin account because they know that I know what I am doing and I also help other people with their computers. However, the receptionist has a limited account since she is a bit of a download whore (but I installed AIM for her - I felt bad)



    QT does write to the system folder during the install and most likely this privilege is a no no on your account. I am not sure why WMP installed without a privilege violation message though. I am wondering if the restrictions were activated at the time that you installed WMP.
