$120 is too much for this upgrade dammit. I'd say price the upgrade for current X users at around $59 and that's fair. They would probably make just as much money off the $59 upgrade cuz a lot less people would pirate it.
I actually think Leo is a pretty smart guy. He's said things on the show in the past that have totally surprised me in regards to his computer knowledge.
I really don't agree with what he said though. Saying he thinks it'll be the most pirated OS ever, then saying "I'm not going to be paying for it" and Brett saying "I'm not buying it"... looks real good, guys. You can read into their comments quite easily.
I was quite happy to pay $129 for OSX the first time, and I'd pay it again. If I didn't think there was enough new stuff in the release to make it worth the money, I'd pass on it. Simple as that. I'm sure as hell not going to pirate Apple new operating system.

I buy all my updates but OS X was expensive at $129 for me. and it really was problematic. 10.2 really seems like the polished OS we have been waiting for and it kind of sucks we have to pay so much to get that polish.

Jaguar is not a "point release" in the previous connotation of the word. It appears that Apple has improved every aspect of the OS. The problem seems to be calling it 10.2. Some have suggested that it would be better to call it 10.5 or something like that. Maybe, but look at it this way. Apple has, for the past couple of years I guess, hyped OS 10. All you heard was OS 10 here, OS 10 there. OS 10 has got to be around for a decent period of time. If they call it OS 10.5, they are already half way to 11! OS 10 has been too hyped to simply have it hang around for a only one or two years. My bet is that every significant upgrade (and I would absolutely consider Jaguar to be that) will only increment by a tenth of a point. Bug fix releases will be between the upgrades (10.1.5, etc..) It is somewhat of a different numbering scheme that what we are used to in the past, but I would imagine that it is time to get used to it. This present scheme allows Apple to utilize 9 large upgrades (if needed) before they move onto OS 11 (or whatever). I think this allows them to milk OS 10 for all its worth. Maybe you don't like the price, but I for one think that the enhancements introduced in Jaguar will dramatically shape how we interact with technology in the coming years. Some of you said that much of the stuff offered does not at this point interest you. My opinion? It will. Maybe not right away, but soon enough many of the technologies developed in Jaguar will the ones that you will cause you to say "How did I ever live without that?" And Apple has to lay the groundwork for those technologies, so that when you finally decide to use it, it will be intuitive and seamless and all the other great things Apple brings to their products. I know a heck of a lot of people who said that they would never have the need for a cell phone. Now it is strange to see people who DON'T have a cell phone. I see these technologies as evolving it the same fashion. We just have to pay for it now so that we can have the experience with it later. Just a couple thoughts for all of you to chew on.

May I saw Brett Larson also defended the OS 10.2 price buy saying that is less than a dallor for every feature in 10.2. That was stated on Call For Help. TechTV has gone down hill and Leo Laporte is turning in to a joke, all he wants to do now is make a quick buck. When ZDTV first started TechTV it was all about People talking to People now its Hey GO BUY MY BOOK. I haven't went out and bought any of that crap because that is what it is crap.

Those Mac OS Up-To-Date coupons should get you the update for $20. I think anyone who bought a Mac in the last 18 months or who paid for Mac OS X has 3 of 'em just sitting around.
Let's not all come unhinged, ok folks. 10.2 is a pretty substantial upgrade. Yes, it does fix a lot of things, but you'll be surprised at how much is also added. As for .mac, I'm not surprised at how people are reacting, but I'll happily pay the $100. I use every feature of .mac and 100MB of hosting at Akamai speeds for $100 is a pretty good deal.

Its not that OSX.2 isn't a dramatic improvement. I'm sure it is. The anger is over the fact that 10.1x was so green. 10.2 may be considered the first version that is ripe, ready for public consumption. After struggling with "a work in progress" (a description I read often), now we have to pay $129 for the real thing?
Whether the anger is valid or not, I think that is where it comes from.

All you have to do is go to Apple's education link at the Apple Store. Any time I've ordered stuff thru there they never asked for proof or anything.

Half of you are saying that 10.1.5 is just fine and you don't need Jag adn won't upgrade...
The other half says 10.2 is what it should have been in the first place and anything prior sucks and are bitter about paying to upgrade...
There isn't even a consensus among the forum warriors in here upset about the cost.
