Perhaps instead of reporting on bogus Apple Watch data the media should be focused on more layoffs at Microsoft, especially in their hardware divisions. Microsoft is laying off employees and might be writing down its Nokia acquisition. Meanwhile Apple promoted 3 people intimately involved with Apple Watch. Who's doomed?

Greatly beating sales of your competitors is not saying much in this market.

Apple's competition is pure garbage. Plain and simple.

Daniel sort of blew off the fact that Apple will not be reporting watch numbers. If they are so stellar, one would think they would want to promote that fact.

Tey are probably "decent" but not more than that.

I don't buy into EVERYTHING that Apple does.

I own a Mac (well two), CTwo iPhones in the house, a now ancient A4 baed Apple TV, and an iPad so I of course buy Apple.

    But no watch.

Before the Watch was even available for sale Apple said it would not be reporting any data on it because as a Cook said, competitors are looking for it and he doesn't want to give it up. Also keep in mind that this market is it it's infancy so Apple providing sales data is kind of meaningless as there's nothing really to compare it to. But I will ask the question, if Apple Watch is such a dud as many on the www proclaim, how come 3 employees intimately involved with it were recently promoted by Tim Cook? Don't employees associated with failures usually get demoted or fired not promoted?

Something else people seem to forget is the only Apple product that was a runaway hit from day one is the iPad. The iPod didn't really become hugely successful until iTunes and especially when iTunes came to Windows. It took 74 days to sell 1 million iPhones and one could argue iPhone didn't really take off until iPhone 4 and when it came to Verizon.

Exactly. The 3GS started the must have, followed by the 4. Then the end of AT&T exclusivity launched it into the stratosphere.

The announced before the first watch shipped they wouldn't break the. Out because of exactly this. The speculation that said numbers would cause on a product in its infancy

    All Apple Watch models.

I suspect what slice is showing is true for the U.S. market at least. I also think it won't matter to Apple who are powerful enough now to not need a blockbuster product on first release but can get there over time.

As if Apple Watch ISN'T a blockbuster product already! "Powerful" is what Apple is ONLY because its products are mostly blockbusters, and ONLY because Apple DOES care about all of them, and HAS done so for DECADES! All this "bad news" is merely manufactured by the hidden bad hat cowards who go nuts when anyone or any company is successful, and is actually a perverse INVERSE index of that success.

I always look forward to the author's comments, but I also find it interesting that whenever there is a substantial negative aspect about one of Apple's products, they drag this guy out and he writes positive stuff about Apple.

It doesn’t embarrass them because they suffer no consequences for being wrong. That’s how it is with the analysis business. For every ‘doom and gloom’ prediction there’s a ‘rainbows and unicorns’ counter prediction. You get to choose which one you believe based on your built-in biases.

Bottom line though is that we in the Apple camp should have gotten used to this stuff years ago. I think we pay too much attention to the ‘doomed’ predictions even if we ridicule them. It’s almost like we have PTSD from the difficult years.

You do realize that both of these can be true right?  Nobody else is selling smartwatches at any sort of meaningful volume, so anything Apple released was going to easily crush everyone else.  It's also entirely possible that almost everyone that wants one has one by this point.  We don't know if Apple simply started producing more Watches, or if order volumes fell off.  Either way, there's hardly any delay on new orders from what I've seen.

At least Rene Ritchie attempted to provide context over at iMore.

But Rene Ritchie and DED are then dismissed as fanboy shills, even by some so-called Apple fans. It never ends.

All you need to do is go to Slices website and look at their previous reports. They have everything from interest in the movie Frozen to Keurig coffee cups to gas BBQ's. Then we have a bunch of reports on Apple, with most of them being the Apple Watch. Oh, and nothing on competing products. Where's the Galaxy S5 vs S6 numbers (which would be a popular topic)? Apple TV vs Roku? iPad vs all other tablets? Or the real kicker: iPhone sales by model/capacity vs other smartphones.

Surely they have access to this data as well. When a company has a disproportionate number of "reports" ins certain company or product then you know there's a alternate agenda. Same applies to another hater favorite, Crittercism.

To me these days Rene Ritchie does a better job than anyone else getting on top of FUD the minute it starts getting traction out there. That's one of the things I love about iMore. They seem to cut through the noise better than anyone else.

Exactly. Nobody heard of Slice Intelligence until they started pimping this Apple Watch stuff. There's definitely an agenda here. And for all the haters of the Watch looking for confirmation bias they'll latch on to this and ride it as long as they can. But as I said and another post if Apple Watch is such a dud, such a failure then how come 3 people intimately involved in the Watch project were promoted by Tim Cook? People involved and failures don't typically get promoted do they?

So what this article says is that Apple has the highest sales in a market with terrible demand? Way to go, biggest fish in a little pond.

Quite a few coworkers have the apple watch, and it was neat at first but just a glorified calendar keeper now. Rather than fishing their phone out to look at the meeting reminders they can glance down. Oh, and they can buy their cokes with the wave of a hand, that's cool actually. But not $500 cool.

What people have to remember is that this is a tech item. Meaning that other than the nostalgia factor, they will be worthless in 3 years. Or I can spend about $200 more and get an entry level real watch that will hold value forever. You can't buy a phone that won't be irrelevant with the next version, you can buy a watch that is exempt from decline as tech support for it wanes.

I guess AAPL is getting crushed because the entire phony Chinese stock market is collapsing. Quite a rout.
