The size both kills the forum's formatting and load time for modem users. At least be considerate enough to post a simple link rather than an inline image if you won't make a thumbnail.

We've been through this discussion before in the last desktop picture thread. If you recall, Jonathan had made it a requirement to post thumbnails or links rather than these huge things.

I am sorry, I was just lazy about it, I was not aware this is a rule

No worries. We all make mistakes... once.

Here's a reminder from the last desktop thread:

The next person that does not thumbnail or link their image (meaning, if it's over 640x480) gets the THREAD LOCKED, every subsequent 'Post Your Desktop' thread LOCKED, and you will be banned for a week.

Don't **** with me on this one. I am one very unhappy camper. I made calm rules about this thread in the hopes that you would follow them.

    Apparently not.<hr></blockquote>

    Carry on.

    Brad, I see your pictures.

    I'm in Switzerland, it's Sunday.

Can you post linkage to larger pictures, please ?

and what app was that again that u used in the bottom pic ?
  • Reply 145 of 1795
Yes, Defiant, I had my server fixed and running again on Friday. My host was changing around the DNS and choked for some users. There was already a link for a full-sized snapshot in the original post. <a href="http://brad.project-think.com/images/desktop-snap6.jpg"; target="_blank">Here it is again</a>.

To get the screensaver on the desktop, I used the following CLI command. Important Note: this only works in 10.2. edit: the command is a single line, but the web browser may break it to fit on the page. [quote]/System/Library/Frameworks/ScreenSaver.framework/Resources/ScreenSaverEngine.app/Contents/MacOS/ScreenSaverEngine -background<hr></blockquote>

There are some apps that will do this for you with a GUI, such as <a href="http://www.versiontracker.com/moreinfo.fcgi?id=15957&db=mac"; target="_blank">Desktop Effects</a>.

    Click <a href="http://homepage.mac.com/zo66/.Pictures/desktop.jpg"; target="_blank">here</a> for full 1024x768 version.

Very minimalist I must say. I actually figured, wtf, I never use the volume menu item, i always use my keyboard control, and I never change the res or color depth.. so I just really need is clock. And the ever necessary NetMonitor

I made the background by nabbing the Jaguar X and then "Inverting" it in Photoshop. That simple. If anyone wants it, grab it, get it <a href="http://homepage.mac.com/zo66/.Pictures/jaguar_x_blue.jpg"; target="_blank">here</a>

I also made a funky inverted desktop of the "Faux Fur Jaguar" Funky is an understatement. Get it <a href="http://homepage.mac.com/zo66/.Pictures/faux_fur_blue.jpg"; target="_blank">here</a>

Brain, isn't the builtin firewall in 10.2 enough? What options does it have less than Brickhouse?

I dont care about firewalls since I dont have a single port on so there is no way to hack my Mac... or is there?

BrickHouse offers *far* better options for configuring the firewall. I tried Apple's interface and it broke my internet sharing. No matter what, I couldn't get the two to work together in harmony. BrickHouse let me fix it just fine, though.

    In honor of Jaguar:

    <a href="http://homepage.mac.com/jetpowers/.Pictures/screenshot.jpg"; target="_blank">My Desktop</a>

    <a href="http://homepage.mac.com/jetpowers/.Pictures/wallpaper.jpg"; target="_blank">http://homepage.mac.com/jetpowers/.Pictures/wallpaper.jpg</a>; for the background.

<a href="http://homepage.mac.com/jetpowers/.Pictures/original.jpg"; target="_blank">http://homepage.mac.com/jetpowers/.Pictures/original.jpg</a>; for the original picture from the web.

I meant to post this a while ago, but I forgot (then I got into a fight with AT&T Cable over $25 and they cut me off ).....Someone really ought to take the original and Mac-ify it, adding a discreet Apple or "X" logo or something.....Photochoppers?

    Jet

Mod Edit - you actually did post this already Jet. 6th post from the top of this page.... I changed the image to a link on that one, and again here. Please either thumbnail it or keep it to links - the large size throws the page formatting to hell for anyone at 1024x768 or smaller.

    Thanks.

TI, I believe you need to go to your iDisk and rename that image to "Desktop.tif" because some browsers will fail to load an image with an incorrect file extension.

Better yet, actually export the TIF as a JPG rather than just renaming it to JPG.
