Installed GL6, used once.
Installed DW MX, used a couple times, buggy as hell
Using BBEdit, the greatest of all TextEditors!
Will look at OmniWeb now...
Ok, DW MX not buggy as hell, but I used it one entire day and it had some glitches that went on my nerves. Also some item selecting is not really intuitive, so whats the editor good for when it doesnt make THIS easy?
Besides, if you do it in a plain text editor, you automatically dont overload your sites with stuff that the Browsers cant do correctly anyway ;-)))
Dreamweaver for rapid prototyping, and BBEdit for the real stuff. There's no way around BBEdit if you're serious in coding clean HTML or PHP or whatever. (Shellscripting, SQL, anything)
The only thing I do actually use DreamWeaver for is complex tables make in dreamweaver and then copy paste the code making to many <TR> and <TD>`s can become confusing after a while especially when you have a 2000 line website
BBedit most of the time with Dreamweaver for some of the tedious table stuff. One thing I HATE about DW is that it want to stick Height tags into table cells. Try doing "Find and Replaces" for a 5000 page site that was Dreamweavered sometime - you'll want to shoot yourself - almost every page was different due to the Height tags. Arrrghhh!
Drewprops, nice portfolio - I love the architechture stuff.
I was a long time GoLive user, but had to switch to Dreamweaver. GoLive insists on adding in tags that I don't want among other annoyances. Dreamweaver handles SSIs great, and integrates with Flash and Fireworks like a charm. BBEdit is great for doing Perl in, but for those who say WYSIWYG editors are simpletons I say stop being such a snob. Believe it or not, my goal is to get things done quickly and efficiently. If my editor can help, great. I know HTML, and I don't need to stroke my coding ego by doing everything by hand.
BBEdit when getting elbow deep in the code is necessary (PHP, etc.)
You can never rely on any WYSIWYG for clean code but DW mostly produces sparkling stuff (just keep that code window open to make sure). And the speed boost of a WYSIWYG far outweighs the need to clean things up every once in a while...
It is hard to do paid work writing HTML by hand - they will (and IMHO should) look for someone faster.
I'd consider OW more seriously, but BBEdit's Open from FTP server is much more useful to me than OW's WebDAV support, and I use BBEdit for a lot more than just web stuff, so it's comfortable and familiar.
I just really love netscape composer, and claris homepage 2.0 they make the absolute best html of any wysiwyg editors i've ever used. Ooops! almost forgot the best web editor of all time, microsoft word 97!
But seriosuly, Dreamweaver kicks balls. I'm too lasy to code everything out. For everyday use dreamweaver is good. But if your into scripting, php and all that go for the bbedit or simple text

Pages render faster if you give every cell a height and width.
