Tidal accuses Apple of interfering with Drake live stream, Drake denies

Jay Z-backed music service Tidal -- which carried a live stream of Lil Wayne's Hurricane Katrina benefit show this weekend?-- cut the transmission during Drake's performance and accused Apple of "interfering with artistry" by not allowing the set to be streamed, a charge which has been refuted.

In the midst of the show, Tidal's stream went black with a message that read "Apple is interfering with artistry and will not allow this artist to stream. Sorry for big brother's inconvenience." A follow-up report in the NYP said that Apple had threatened a $20 million lawsuit if Tidal streamed Apple Music endorser Drake's set.

Drake's manager Future denied that claim, telling BuzzFeed News that the move "has nothing to do with Apple or Drake's deal."

"Point blank, 100%. I made a business decision," Future continued. "Apple doesn't have the power to stop us from being part of a live stream. The only people that have the power to do that are Cash Money and Universal, and they're our partners."

Despite Future's protestations --?and a similar denial from sources at Apple --?Tidal insists that Apple was behind the decision to pull the stream.

"We have all the email receipts and written correspondence that took place with said, blocked performance," a Tidal spokesperson told BuzzFeed. "That being said we choose to keep it classy."

Apple has not publicly commented.

Lol. Tidal sucks. So they blame Apple.

funny thing is Apple didn't have anything to do with it.

Just go away little bum. Go away.

And even if Apple did, it's called contracts and business.

And the artists willingly take part in that.

After all, let's not forget that Todal isn't about the people enjoying the music. It's about the business of producers making money.

And the whole "we have evidence, but we won't show you because we are too good" means they have no evidence and whoever said that likely doesn't understand the libelous trouble they are in should Apple decide to pursue this.

Accusation + two denials + no proof = "keeping it classy."

Can I get a what what?

Let's get Taylor Swift to write Apple another public letter.

Apple should know how this works by now; either they come back with full proof that they did not force the cutting of the Drake stream; or else, said accusation sticks.

Apple should start by suing Tidal for slander.

Class 101 - Don't start your reply with Lol. _________ sucks!

The sad thing is that the Tidal music service is actually pretty awesome, it's just too bad that the new owner has done nothing but attract negative attention to the service.

Oh, come on!  What an ignorant statement, show me a business that isn't about making money.  It is likely that Apple's profits on it's new music service in the first year will far exceed all of the profits that Jay Z or Tidal have ever realized.  Tidal's service offers plenty to enjoy, especially to those who can appreciate good sound quality (cue the theorists that say you can't hear the difference between 256 AAC and anything higher).

Except Apple won't pursue it because Tidal are probably correct. Why would they lie?

Are people genuinely surprised that Apple engages in confidential NDA-like negotiations? We hear it all the time. Tidal probably can't reveal these negotiations for fear of being sued.

Apple are like Scientology in their secrecy and propensity to sue.

    Future is Drake's manager?!!!

    For the geeks:

That's like an Apple Store manager being Tim Cooks manager.

It's more like a high school student being the manager of a recent high school graduate.

Er … no, that's not how it works. Tidal made the accusation, so they need to prove it. What's that? They won't because the want to keep it classy? Yes, because posting a poorly worded accusation and then refusing to show the evidence wreaks of 'classy'.

Show the proof, or it didn't happen.

So Drake and his manager, Future, made the SOLE decision to pull the stream.  Apple was not involved.

JayZ and his company Tidal must be

    1. Pulling a hissy fit because Apple did not buy Tidal for billions.

    2. Trolling for Eyeballs by dragging Apple into Tidal's own mess.

    3. Not paying Drake well enough for Drake to stream his life performance
