Uh, no. What the heck are you talking about? I don't know how you extrapolate such a statement from anything anyone has posted here.

Well I think that, because they are. Their square watches were crap and ugly so they wen to plan B, aping the look of traditional watches. And why all the PR shots with the perfect render and a skeuomorphic watch face that looks just like a traditional watch face make the watches look great but then you see them in real life and they don't.

Here's the press shot of the Huawei (notice the press shots always feature a skeuomorphic analog watch face)

    41yIf%2B3%2B7YL._SY300_.jpg

And the watch in real life.

    huawei-watch-21-710x399.jpg

    huawei-watch-hands-on-review-5.jpg?itok=iBUmKwRS

    gagbs67ltgumdqheb3tb.jpg

Doesn't look nearly as nice when the screen is black or when the screen is on and it doesn't look like the PR shots one bit. And look at how much of that notification is taken up by somebody's photo. I guess that works fine if someone's text message is only two lines but how often does that happen.

Now look at this recent ?Watch ad from Vogue magazine. It's in Vogue's September 'fashion bible' issue and is printed on special paper so it definitely stands out as you're flipping through the magazine. It makes the watch look fashionable but also shows off its utility. What's also interesting about this ad spread is the first page has ?WATCH printed across the center and that's it. Nowhere else do you see the word Apple, or designed by Apple in California or anything like that. it totally fits in with all the other ads in the magazine. And they're not just advertising the gold watch, they're advertising all three collections. But in real life the watch looks just like it does in this ad. I have yet to see an Android Wear watch that looks as good in real life as it does in PR shots.

I will at least commend you on your current selections of more representative photos of the smart watches you hate, rather than your previous intellectually disingenuous approach. Although a candid photo still doesn't look the same as in person, even for Apple. Funny how you chose the worst photo you could to make a subjective point from the exact same series of photos:

What color is mainly displayed on that watch face? Do you have a promotional image in which we can compare?

LG announced a 23-karat gold plated Urbane for $1200.

    lg-urbane-luxe.jpg

I am slightly amused that Apple Watch has been knocked for being too expensive (and I'm not even talking about the Edition), yet now we have several Android Wear watches that will be as expensive if not more expensive than Apple Watch.

But here's something I'm still trying to understand. More and more people wear nothing on their wrist. Clearly then they're not really attracted to traditional watches from a fashion or luxury standpoint because if they were they'd be wearing them. Are LG and Huawei thinking the only way you'll put something on your wrist is if it mimics a traditional watch? Are they going after those who do wear higher end mechanical watches? If someone does wear a higher end mechanical watch will they abandon it for one of these smartwatches?

LG also has a rectangular smartwatch. Just too "techy" IMO.

Huawei also has a rectangular wearable. Again a bit techy but their latest watch does look pretty nice in renders. Might be worth seeing in person if a guy wants a smart wearable but just does not like the look of a bracelet style rectangular. It doesn't look good on a thin female wrist IMO.

EDIT: Three years from now even Apple's current smartwatch may look quaint. I don't consider any of the current smartwatch crop to be particularly thin and sleek but battery tech and smaller components are on the way to make it so.

Yeah I'll be interested to see where Apple takes ?Watch. It seems clear to me though they're not trying to court the luxury watch wearing crowd. In fact Jony Ive even said at that Condé Nast conference that he didn't think ?Watch was in competition with luxury watches. This is probably why we haven't seen ?Watch sold at traditional jewelry stores and I honestly would be surprised if we ever do.

Do you just enjoy spewing baseless propaganda? Or are you just that out of touch about a subject you seem particularly fixated on?

How is that propaganda? She is mistaken about "we" having not seen Apple Watch start selling in traditional jewelry stores but that is very recent change; your first article says it started only 10 days ago. Did Ive not say something about not competing with luxury watches? Everything points to that being accurate. You can say that Ive was fibbing and that Apple will come out with a $100,000+ Apple Watch, but he is quoted as saying, "It’s not our intent to compete with luxury goods" and "Marc and i have collected mechanical watches for many years."

From AI a few months back. A casual reader would certainly be left with the impression that Apple intended to compete with the traditional high-end fashion watchmakers.

Luxury is not the same as quality or high-end, to me. I see a luxury watch as something even a multi-millionaire wouldn't wear on a daily basis. Even the most expensive Apple Watch, which is due to it being gold, isn't even close to be in the luxury traditional watch category. It's well out of most people's price ranges, but that's different.

It's more than just that. High end jewelry store The Hourglass was selling the ?Watch on June 25.

Apple's actions speak louder than words, especially now that they are adding another high end jewelry store to the mix with London Jewelers.

Could it be the slow roll out, and supply constraints that kept Apple from immediately jumping into bed with jewelry stores? They charge $17,000 (so far) for an Edition Watch that likely has less $1,500 worth of gold in it. That's luxury in any book. And sense when has any business telegraphed to their competition about their long term marketing strategy?
