Wintel's new iMac Killa!
Interesting how a Wintel maker can offer the same features as Apple's iMac for $1100. Apple says it's the LCD prices....I say it's the margins Apple needs.
Here's the iMac Killa, and it packs more processing power than any iMac will even a year from now.

Scary. Apple's got to do something about the performance gap NOW, not next year.

Nice try.
Come on JYD, you can do better than that.

Northgates laptop looks even worse . . . the cheapest model comes with an external battery
<a href="http://www.northgate.com/products/notebook_desktops/integra/" target="_blank">northgate website</a>
...and i'm not talking about the design (or lack of).
That.....thing offends the very nature of AIO design. Furthermore, as others have pointed out, it is missing some key features.
On the one hand, though, it has USB 2. Whoopdee-freakin-doo.
ting5
First of all, one of the most obvious features: The Superdrive. Integra don't got it. Care to guess where some of the price difference is coming from?
The Integra's display is XGA. The iMac's is fully digital. They're both AGP 4X, but you can bet your house that the iMac's display looks better.
iMac has two Firewire ports, Integra 2 has one. The 5.1 surround speakers are an option, not standard - so DD 5.1 ain't worth jack if you don't have the full speaker setup. Not a big deal, but it adds cost nonetheless.
Integra 2 has 4 USB ports - the iMac has 5 if you include the ports on the keyboard.
Integra can handle 512 MB of memory - iMac can do 1 GB.
In fact I'd say the only thing the Integra really has on the iMac is the memory and bus architecture, and main processor speed. That may mean everything to a very small amount of people, but now let's get into what you're really missing if you get an Integra 2 instead of an iMac:
iTunes. iMovie. iDVD. iPhoto. Sherlock 3. iChat. The Jaguar address book and its integration with everything else in Jaguar. Rendezvous. The ease of setup you get with every Mac with OS X. The way OS X doesn't crash. And of course the biggest reason to get an iMac instead of an Integra: OS X itself, especially Jaguar. That's the bottom line right there, boys - Jaguar has made a firm believer out of me regarding OS X. The cool factor is through the roof with this one, and you can't get it on any PC.
So you can get the Integra with an inferior monitor, no Superdrive, an inferior operating system with inferior software if you want to - be my guest. But I'll keep my iMac.
The problem is that this iMac killa DOES offer more performance than the iMac currently does. I bet it would even win a Photoshop bake-off with the iMac! That's bad! It's embarrassing to Apple.
This is serious. Apple's got to do something. Their $3500 Powermacs are getting hammered by $1100 Wintel iMac knockoffs that really aren't all that bad.
Most consumers without any experience with OS X are going to look at this iMac Killa and be impressed. They will compare the specs and prices and choose the Wintel. The ONLY reason to buy the iMac is for it's style, and most important to me, because of OS X. Apple needs to make performance a reason, again, and I'm not talking about MHz, I"m talking about real world performance. An 800 MHz G4 on a 100 MHz FSB is going to get wasted by a Pentium 4!! Even a 1GHz G4 would. Apple's staring into the abyss right now and they've got to pull a miracle outta their ass!
Wow. It's almost as nice as those craptacular Compaqs with the colored faceplates.

So what? It's a home machine. It doesn't offer more performance for games (the video sucks), so what else does it need it for? Nobody will ever use Photoshop on this thing. They will write papers and surf the internet and balance their checkbook, which makes the performance delta pointless.
The ONLY place the performance difference is of any importance is at the high end.
