Apple hints at major App Store announcements ahead of iPhone event
An early morning tweet from one of Apple's official accounts suggests that the App Store will be a major focus of today's special event, lending support to long-running rumors that the marketplace would expand to an all-new Apple TV.
"Today is going to be big. Watch the keynote starting at 10 a.m. PT," the official @AppStore account tweeted early Wednesday. The message was retweeted by the relatively new @AppStoreGames, but no other official Apple account --?save for a single two-week-old tweet from marketing chief Phil Schiller --?had even mentioned the event at press time.
Apple's marketing efforts are painstakingly orchestrated, and promoting today's event primarily to the App Store audience is almost certainly intentional.
Alongside new iPhones and a possible jumbo iPad, Apple is widely expected to unveil a brand new Apple TV that will include an App Store of its own. The company is rumored to have begun inviting select developers --?including Twitter --?to create third-party apps designed to run on televisions.
With the event just hours away, the traditional canary in the coal mine of new Apple products has also appeared --?the Apple online store is down.
Apple will stream the event live to iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Mac, and second- and third-gen Apple TV units starting at 10 a.m. Pacific. For the first time in years, Windows users will be able to join in, provided they are running Microsoft Edge on Windows 10.

If would be great if they introduced refunds. Steam introduced a policy a few months ago whereby if you have played a game for less than 2 hours, you can get your money back. It has already started having a positive effect on PC game quality, with an especially poor PC version of Batman: Arkham Knight being pulled from Steam for rework, possibly due to them getting inundated with refunds.
It could potentially have a similar quality benefit for iOS apps.

I had Facebook and Twitter on my PS3 in like 2009. It really wasn't great. The nicest feature will be having any media source you want, not just the ones Apple's cut sweetheart deals with.

Lots of games would be great on the TV! OUYA failed because it had a tiny user base and to few games being made for it. That's completely different from a AppleTV and a HUGE iOS user base. It would be cool to play on my iPad or iPhone and then get home play a little on my HDTV. Buy one game and work on all. Something the OUYA wasn't doing. There is just no comparison between the 2. Was the OUYA a Media streaming device? Could you even watch Netflix on the thing? It was yet another crappy Android Game Box that went no where.

The problem is the same; what works on a smartphone touch screen does not always work with a controller, and much of the controller stuff is available in better versions elsewhere (Minecraft, racing games, Halo, etc).
There is no way ( I hope) that Apple are going to use the aTV for Twitter style apps. Games, screen savers, TV shows, full screen applications.
They already have a controller API. It's 2 years old.
