*waits for the shock to wear off*

Apple seems to have really gotten their shisse together recently. And the iBook is a really nice machine. Well worth what I paid. ($1449 - $50 educational discount).

I'm quite impressed. Apple seems to be well out of its slump.

I'm still surprised that I got the Apple Loan. Too bad it wouldn't cover the Airport Base Station and card, tho.

Not to make you spend more money, but i would advise getting some AppleCare before the Warranty expires. My User Group President advises to all laptop owners to get a warranty because you take that thing every where and if it brakes it costs more

Aw, yeah! Welcome to the mysterious cult of the iBook. Other Mac faithful look at out G3's and laugh, but we've got the awsome power of go-anywhere, and we rule.

Word of advice: get airport card, and el cheapo 802.11 wap (wireless access point). You can get a dlink for as <a href="http://www.justdeals.com"; target="_blank">little as $75</a>. Not as multifunctional as an Airport, but about $214 cheaper.

Plugs right into a cable modem, no questions asked.

Or, if you already have a Mac, get two airport card and use it's broadcast power to hit the iBook.

iBook with Airport is teh shiznik.

I got my iBook last Friday ( ) and its Airport card yesterday. Then I had to wait 24 hours for the base station to arrive today. This is soooo awesome.

    Congrats, Doc, and welcome back!

    Long time no see.

I have to agree that, "despite" the G3, the iBook is very compelling. I've been lusting after one for a while now. Alas, I haven't been able to justify the expense yet...

Anyway, good to see you again, and on an iBook!

Thanks! It's good to be back, and to receive such a warm welcome from everyone!

The iBook is great, simply amazing. Not a single dead pixel, either. Only problem is the lack of HD space which I forgot to address before I left the Apple Store. Called them today and they said my only option would be to return it minus a $144 restocking fee and reorder it online.

It looks like I'll have to make due with 20GB. Somehow half of it dissappeared in 24 hours. The drive is barely over 18GB formatted. Blah.

But that issue aside, it is a fantastic machine.

And OS X has finally matured, and surpasses all previous incarnations of the MacOS.

So you didn't have the option of getting the 30 gig drive at the store. When I purchaced mine I was like what size HD is coming in mine and she stated 20 gig. I was sure that I read 30 when I was looking at the computer, and sure enough I did have a 30 gig HD. I still have 20 gigs of the 30 gig to use up on my HD the only reason why I have so much space is because I store all my mp3z on my firewire drive along with any downloaded movies or software so it keeps my HD nice and clean.

    Yep.

Nope. They wouldn't BTO it at the store. I would have to order it online, according to the woman I spoke with. Kinda sad, really. It is the Apple Store. I could understand not doing it at CompUSA, but not aat the company's exclusive outfit, where there is a tech on duty.

Do you have a 12.1 inch or a 14.1 inch? The latter come standard w/ 30 GB drives. The 12 inchers do not.

DocGonzo, a Mac user and praiser, once again? I remember when the dual ibooks first came out and you were praising them. That's when I thought that Apple had done its job right. Now we have actual confirmation. Congrats! Enjoy it and welcome back.
