The return of Macworld Boston!

Woohoo! Macworld in NY was supposed to only be until the new convention center was built and it looks like IDG is keeping good with their promise.

This is terrific. I thought that Macworld was going to be in NY for good. This brings back some memories.

Doesn't make any difference to me, I live 40 minutes away from SF and I've never even seen the convention center(though I did see three Apple ads the last time I was there).

I loooooooove Boston. Its my favorite city in the US. Don't get me wrong, NYC is great but Boston kicks its booty in my opinion.

However, this puts MacWorld further away from me. Trips to the Javits Center were easy and fun. Oh well, at least now I have a good excuse for a trip to beantown!!! Hooray!!! Can't wait.

So does this mean it won't be in 2 different buildings all the way across town from each other?

You gotta admit that was dumb.

Anyway, they said "may" and by "2004". So we've still got at least 1 more NY MacWorld to look forward to

According to people who know stuff, Boston has the worst traffic in the US. Is this relevant? Not really.

Boston has awful traffic as of now. However, in a short time the "Big Dig" will be over and the traffic situation greatly improved. Not to mention the city will look much more attractive on the whole.

New York, is in my opinion, the BEST city for any sort of trade show. It is such a vibrant business city and there is SO much to do there. Not to mention, the Javitz center isn't so bad either! Everytime i went to teh NY Autoshow and the one time i went to MWNY (the one where ibooks and airport were first introduced), I had the BEST time, and i attribute that to those events being held in NY. Maybe they should have MWSF in feb/march, MWNY in Aug, and MW Boston in October to hit all the key buying seasons, and to make up for the cost, make them somwhat smaller.

Thats a good point, the middle of the country seems to be left out. But lets be honest, the east coast is the most important/best section of the country. J/K GO CHICAGO!!!

No! Keep it in NY! I love Javits! New York is a great city, I love how close it is (four hours) and hey, it's New York! New York is great because after you get done wandering around the expo you can walk a few blocks down to the business/financal district, or head up to the New York Public Library, Central Park, even (for you Deus Ex freaks) DeWitt Clinton Park. IMHO Boston is a great city (save the horrible traffic I ran into when I was there),but it can not hold a candle to New York. If they move it, it should go to the new Washington D.C. convention center. Please? Come on, I would only have to drive for 40 minutes

but seriously folks, i'd prefer it in ny. i haven't actually gone (i'm poor), but i like the notion of a huge apple event being that close to me. like, if i really wanted to, i could scrounge up the money, and see the debut of the g6 or something. plus i like the extra ads around the city when a mw approaches (i [apple] ny, and the switchers now).

but, irregardless of where i, or any individual, think it should be, the show will flow to the cheaper place. the world is run on money. if bastan is cheaper for them, that's where it'll be. maybe the javits can cudgle them back.

It's a very good move by IDG to move it back to Boston. If they can get the hotel rooms and they can get the convention center for nothing, that means they can charge less for people to get in and less for people to exhibit.

I keep hearing that 'Boston isn't New York'. What's your point? If you want to go to New York for your 'summer vacation', no one's stopping you. The cost of staying in Boston isn't nearly as high as staying in New York so spend a few days in Boston and then go visit New York if you want to.

This is MUCH better for everyone involved. The costs will go down for IDG, for exhibitors, and for attendees.

Also just in is this from Boston.com:

They could use the Hynes Convention Center for FREE next year if this deal goes through. It's up to them, but it's looking like an excellent deal.
