This is a major smack down and repudiation of Judge Lucy Koh's ridiculous ruling. Long overdue. Good for Apple.

Great news, however one of the major patents was ruled invalid, can't remember which, and Samsung have been busy developing their own mobile platform. All the appeals probably bought them enough time to do that and they have probably already engineered out the problem features. I suspect it's is a little bit of a hollow victory. However Apple has been able to brand Samsung as a patent cheat once and for all!

It was free yesterday as an introductory offer to get it off the ground.

@spanading : most of Apple's patents asserted against Samsung during the first trial have been invalidated or are up for retrial; those from the second trial are still under review and I am very skeptical that too many of them would survive, when all said and done.

Most of Apple's claims are based on design, trade dress and utility patents, I doubt Apple's empty litigations would interfere much on Samsung's mobile platform ambition. Let's not forget, Apple also successfully managed to brand itself as a patent bully with their "rounded corners."

Thursday's decision is so important that Samsung had the backing of a number of major players in the tech space, including Google, HTC, LG,

While AI's problem (staying in business as an Apple-centric site in a mobile world) is just beginning.

In fact let’s all do it and see how long it takes before AI starts begging for money. For experimental purposes only of course.

I visit hundreds of sites fairly regularly.  And now that Apple's more than doubled picture size files (and quadrupled video ones at 4K) without increasing default memory on the entry-level phones that the great majority will buy - where am I supposed to put all these apps (as well as spend time creating launch schemes for them)??

Meanwhile, while I spend a lot of time here, AI takes the cake for the number of trackers, widgets and whatnots on any site I visit regularly.  Even on my Mac, Ghostery takes a good amount of time just to add up and list all the ones it's blocking before I can read a clean screen every time I land on the site.  So I'm not crying a river for them in particular....

....but the webonomics for small publishers has been radically changed overnight.  And AI certainly deserves a chance to make money for what they provide....

[UPDATE:  AI's being included as featured in Apple News means none of us actually has to cry for them apparently.]

I can't even figure out why it would be a split decision. If you get a patent on something you have an exclusive right to it for a set period of time. There is no requirement that you share your patents.

Interestingly, this is a list of Android users plus the thief himself.

I prefer the app on the iPhone. But on the iPad, I use the web version.

The app version does not allow private messages, etc.

At this point, pretty much everyone knows Samsung is a theiving company. Mission (pretty much) accomplished, thanks to this lawsuit. The loss of reputation, loss of face, and loss of credibility vindicates Apple.

Samsung Electronics' financials are headed down the drain, and rightly so.

Samsung's 'slide-to-unlock' is more Similar to Neonode's icon-less sliding, I'd say. Regardless, as long as pattern unlock isn't touched I care little.

Autocorrect is a strange one. I'm curious about what claim apple has to is considering Dean Hachamovitch invented it and Microsoft implemented and patented it long before the iPhone existed. Why is this exclusively against Samsung when almost every stock version of Android includes autocorrect, and almost every third party android keyboard worth its salt includes it?

Quicklinks I'm not familiar with at all. What is it?
