Column 1 lists the requests processed by origin, 2 is the requests accepted, 3 is the requests denied.

Thanks for the link. That proves my point. Most of these so called refugees aren't fleeing the war. They are opportunists. Most aren't coming from Syria.

No one here is suggesting those genuinely in need of refuge should not be helped. However, there are many not in need of asylum, if not most, taking advantage of those who are, by joining them. How to solve that is a horrendous problem. Throwing money at it is only part of the solution. Not that I don't applaud Apple for engaging. The only solution is to eradicate ISIS IMHO. The problem is every dictator the west helps to overthrow creates a vacuum for the likes of ISIS.

No, as dreyfus2 shows above, the vast majority are genuine.

If we stopped the bombings, invasions, democratically elected government overthrows, the arms sales, the sanctions, incarceration, torture, resource grabs and so much more then maybe there's a chance for real and lasting improvement for peace in the world. The trouble is that that seems to be the only way we in the West know how to behave.

Can you not read? The media and European governments, especially Germany are portraying these people as refugees fleeing the war torn countries. Looking at the statistics above, that proves that's not the case. The majority of people are coming as opportunists not Syrians fleeing the war.

Well, refugees are the ones accepted as refugees. The rest is deported to their home countries anyhow. And there is no real mean to stop that from happening. You simply can't process requests before the people are here, this has been going on forever. Still, processing this is not the main problem (current backlogs aside), the challenge is taking appropriate care of those who are accepted.

I find that hard to believe hundreds of thousands of people are being deported. The solution is close the borders in Eastern Europe so these people can't get to Germany and other wealthy nations. Merkel and other idiot European leaders are making the situation worse by throwing out the welcome mat to these people.

At this point you can say anything you want about bogus refugees. It is far too early to say much. There might even be members of terrorist groups among the masses. That does not mean the people should not be helped. As many as possible should be helped as quickly as possible. This does not mean you immediately grant everyone permanent resident status. The suggestion above to grant temporary status until things settle down in Syria, Iraq and elsewhere is very sensible. Once/if that happens then most should and will return. A number of minorities, however, will probably never be able to return as a variety of cultures have been severely persecuted in the area.

To leave dictators in power is a bandaid solution. The problem seems to be that the West does not know what to do once they are removed. In addition, the traditional leader of the western alliance has been withdrawing to focus on problems within its own borders. The sentiment that these are European problems has taken hold not unlike previous conflicts. Until the West gets its act together many of these problems will just continue to get worse.

No one really knows. To say the majority just decided to go for a stroll to get into Europe isn't plausible. There is a major conflict going on in the area. It's not hard to see why people would not feel safe. I applaud Apple for trying to help.

The paranoia, bigotry, and heartlessness on display in these comments is dispiriting. For some reason, a lot of people find it very satisfying to believe that vast swaths of humanity are threatening and morally inferior. Try looking at yourselves in the mirror instead.

This is a disgraceful article. Hungary is a sovereign country and has the right to choose how it controls its borders.

To tritely say the Hungarian government is hostile to immigration is bullshit, they want to identify and control which migrants access their country, and then the EU, as required by EU law, and something the U.S. also takes seriously.
