Haven’t you heard? Shtisung is announcing its car this afternoon thereby stealing the spotlight from Apple. Android users are already reminding people that Google has had a car for years.
Cars (even the relatively simple electric models) need an enormous supply chain. They also need mechanics. Not technicians, not geniuses. Mechanics. Just because it doesn't have an internal combustion engine doesn't mean it doesn't have moving parts.
I know they're a smart company and have thought about all this. Kinda surprised they're going all the way like this though.
Hmm... How big do you think Apple's CURRENT supply chain is? It's larger than the car makers already. That they're using smaller parts doesn't change anything. Most current car markers are moving away from manufacturing most things in house and going towards contract manufacturing for most things (in some case even final assembly). That seems to play pretty well in Apple's mode of operation.
Eventually, car makers will look a lot more like Apple (little manufacturing), than the opposite.
I know a few people who work at Tesla and the common theme is: the pay sucks (it's the allure that brings most in).
Sprinkle a few unrestricted Apple shares in the bucolic fields outside Deer Creek Drive in Palo Alto, and you'll probably hook about 50 employees in an afternoon.

They already have one, sort of (a rebranded Renault). Not too popular, based on the wiki page.
Truckers (CDL holders), taxi drivers, and the like better start preparing for a new career.
Autonomous automobiles would be no different than autopilot on a plane for the foreseeable future. These vehicles will still need a human "pilot" which means no current commercial driver has anything to worry about.
I hope they utilise some of the patents that Tesla open sourced a little while ago. No need to reinvent the wheel.
I wonder how much an Apple Car would cost?
My guess would be the $55,000 - $75,000 range. The sweet spot for sufficiently large quantity, reasonably comfortable margins, and yet be considered 'luxury'.
There will be a rose gold-plated version of the $75,000 configuration, for $225,000.
Some catastrophic, dare I say rotten, 1.0 products that were spectacular failures include the Lisa, Newton, Macintosh Portable
lol, when you have to go back decades to find examples of rotten Apple 1.0 products, then youve lost. few of their competitors today were even around back then.

Maybe so but airplanes have greater risks that broaden the complexity of a completely autonomous flight – namely passengers on the plane as well as people and real-estate on the ground, cost, and variables taking off and landing. I believe an airplane could easily go autonomous but these heighten risks are why humans need to be on-board and in-control.
If transportation safety actually increases dramatically with autonomous vehicles, it would be a natural transition. It may take 10-15 years after releasing the first autonomous vehicles/trucks, but it'll happen.
The Model S is fine as is. What do you think sucks about their infotainment system?
They also have a major update coming in a few weeks with several nice enhancements. The new UI looks a lot like modern iOS / Android.
The shiny chrome lines look cheap. The infotainment system looks like a baad tech movie from the 1980s (with a ridiculous-looking blob of a flat screen); and their new X looks about as attractive as a Ford.

They've peaked.
LOL. You're opinion is definitely YOURS. The majority of the world disagrees with you.
He and I have alread replied because I wasn't trolling. My point is that Apple has a bad track record with 1.0 products in new categories and that I'd rather buy a car from a car company for the first few iterations.
Gotta love the hate this forum greets people with though.

I believe these rumors when Samsung announces equivalent project.

The Apple car won'T be "only" self driving (off course), but it will have a self-driving mode; that is a certainty.
Since self-driving will be only allowed in certain places for quite some time, that makes the most sense of course.
If it has a steering system, it's greasy.

But I get your point. I can see "Galaxy Motors" popping up sometime soon...
It's time to retire the Apple garage pic.
Why is that green car floating in the air? Is Apple making a hovercraft?" src="http://forums-files.appleinsider.com/images/smilies//lol.gif" />
That green thing is a car?!

All 3rd world country service.
Do't knock "3rd world country" car service.
It's often as good as, if not better than what you get in the US.

Yeah, like you've polled the "majority of the world."
Moreover, you asked.

True I did ask. I said that because of the long wait list they have and the near unanimous praise the car continues to receive.
