Thanks for the info. Sometimes the convenience is worth the price.

I tell most people to do it.

Sure, you can get the most from selling on eBay to someone in another country, but there is a certain level of proficiency and risk involved. Then it's Craig's List for local sales but with some effort and risk.

Then usually Amazon, which will get you account credit, followed by Gazelle which will send you a check. The last two may decide your "condition" is less than you think so you could be stuck with less funds, plus you either have to go without your iPhone for a few weeks or wait on the funds for a few weeks after you have paid for your new iPhone. The latter being the most likely scenario and not possible for some people.

It went up with the 5s. Apparently too many people were abusing the system.

    And their devices.

Actually, it is still $49 per incident for iPads, it only went up for iPhones.

I first need to turn in my current iPhone?

No way I'll give away my perfect iPhone4 16gb for only $21.

It will continue to serve me well as my travel phone.

May it have an even longer life on it's original still strong battery. <img class=" src="http://forums-files.appleinsider.com/images/smilies//lol.gif" />   ;)

I was 3rd in line at Target to sign up for the preorder. 3rd.

    I'm still waiting.

Evidently Target didn't even get 3 iPhones...

Really? You couldn't just have a single chart with a couple popular models to compare buyback programs?

It's bizarre. Even on other sites I've seen none that have a comprehensive chart comparing either trade-in values OR wireless plans. These basics are essential to being able to make an informed decision.

I decided to go with T-Mobile to trade in my 16GB Space Grey iPhone 5S from AT&T. They are giving me $352 (locked in since I won't receive my new iPhone for 1-8 weeks), as well as paying my ETF to leave AT&T, so about another $220-$240.

That's a good offer from T-mo. I like that they have VOIP already. I'm getting fed up with AT&T, so I'll have to evaluate my choices closely.

How much do you get after shipping, eBay and PayPal fees?

Great article offers good insight into new features of iPhone. I found new app called Spruceit. It's a really cool app that gives out instant quote, and I didn't had to enter my device information. App also provided me price comparison from three other vendors, and company offers free shipping kit. I highly recommend it, you can check it out at www.spruceit.net/tradein or www.facebook.com/spruceit

I decided to sell my old iPhone 5s to get a new one. I had the phone for 6 months, used a cover the whole time, and had no scratches on it. The headphones, charging adapter, and usb cable had never been touched and were in the original packaging. When looking to sell the phone I thought I would just do the Amazon trade in to minimize the hassle. I had friends who had sold their phones on Amazon in the past and they told me that my phone is definitely "Like New." Going through what was available for sale online, I agreed that it would be classified as "Like New". I sent the phone in and checked the "accept lower condition" option thinking that eventhough it was "Like New" they might try to claim it is "Godd condition" which is $40 less trade in value ($390 verse $350). "Good" condition has the following notes:

Item shows wear from normal use
Item may have light scratches on the body

I thought at worst it would be deemed "Good". I find out today that they deemed the condition "Acceptable" which is a value of $118 and states:

Item is fairly worn from consistent use
The signs of wear can include scratches or dents in the case
Item has a working display (may have minor scratches)
Item may have been personalized (marked, engraved, or identified)
Item may be missing one or all of the following: charging adapter, USB cable

None of which were true. I immediately contact Amazon and they give me the run around for along time about how there is nothing they can do. I said I would pay them for the phone back and they said its too late. That they don't even know where the phone is. Amazon doesn't have anything to do with the phone, it is all done by their merchants. I asked them to tell me which merchant it was and that I would contact the merchant directly and try to buy it back. Amazon told me they don't have that information. I go online and look at the listings of used phones with condition of Acceptable and they are selling for $430 or more (a 300% markup of what they paid me for mine). This is a SCAM for the merchants to buy the phones for cheap and resell them for a huge margin and Amazon will do nothing about it.

No matter what, DO NOT check the "accept lower condition option" because if you do the merchant will always claim that the condition is "acceptable". These merchants are not to be trusted and they will take the lowest possible option that they keep the phone. Note most major phone companies are accepting iPhone 4 trade-ins for $200.

Highly encourage everyone to stay away from doing an Amazon Trade-in. IT IS A SCAM.

Cellbeach dot com always pays the most for iPhones. They pay a lot more than gazelle or any other online buyer. I've sold them three and got a great price every time. They also buy iPads and other tablets.

Great summary of options. Here are some advantages/disadvantages to using some of these services along with others http://www.isellmyiphone.com/sell-iphone-5s-vs-iphone-5s-trade-in/

If you are willing to sell their old iPhone to buy a brand new iPhone 6S then I know a great online retail store: http://www.wirelessheaven.com. There's no other phone that can compare to iPhone 6S right now... The camera takes good quality pictures and screen resolution is amazing.. I brought it two weeks ago and I can't keep my hands off it!!;)
